No, she acts like a damsel in distress so that Fred gives her attention.

We see Daphne’s mask slip in a couple movies and episodes
She’s way smarter than she acts

        so she's basically Quinn Morgendorffer

They didn't know what to do with Daphne so they made her the most athletic, intelligent, and the official leader of Mystery Inc.

I always saw it this way too especially since they segued her into getting into news media in the animated movies. Everyone in Mystery Inc. contributes to solving cases.

Every member on the team historically have helped solve the mysteries, even Shaggy and Scooby. Velma being the lone “smart one” of the gang who figures everything out single-handedly is a modern invention or more aptly flanderization of the gang’s dynamic

      >Velma
I could see Velma being booksmart while Daphne is streetsmart.

Velma is a gay nerd. Fred was the smart AND capable one.

I was thinking about this recently with the Scooby Doo gang having "specialties" in their detective work.
      >Velma
She's very knowledgeable about things like History, Science and research. She could tell you what year something significant happened in time. She could tell you the chemical makeup of something at the crime scene. And anything she doesn't know she's good at cross researching to find it quickly (A skill that, to be fair, was more impressive before the internet.)
      >Daphne
She specializes in things like Clothing, Costumes, and traditions. She's very aware of higher society expectations and rules that the others may be ignorant of. Also she's good at analyzing materials such as clothing which helps a LOT when a significant part of your job is chasing guys in costumes. She could figure something out like the nature of a stain and how long it's sat on a fabric or if it was bought second hand or not.
      >Fred
He's adept at mechanical detective work. He can figure out what kind of machinery may have been used in a crime or the mechanism of its use. He could see something like how long it's been since an engine was on, or what kind of tire treads based on the tracks or the nature of an explosive used by the radius of the crater left.
      >Shaggy
He's good at understanding/reading people, even if unintentionally. He's the human element who can put himself into the thought proccess of your average Joe which gives the rest of the gang some much needed perspective on the headspace of the culprit or victim.
      >Scooby Doo
As a dog he's mostly just useful for scent marking and finding correlation between scents at different scenes of the crime.
And when they work together they cover up for each other's blindspots like a well oiled machine.

I don't find it funny that feminists write all their characters as Mary Sue. It's better like Gunn did, that she got tired of being kidnapped and became a martial arts master to defend herself.

I chuckled at that one team up comic where she learned kung fu by swiping Hong Kong Phooey's book.
Apparently HKP legitimately has the best kung fu manual on the planet since Daphne could almost keep up with Batman after skimming it for half a minute, he's just too much of a goof to make use of it.

Nah it's a retcon because it obviously was never the original's intention to have Daphne be highly capable but she has a fetish for being tied up by strange men, she was just a person who was unfortunately kidnapped alot. Then later writers were desperate to buck the trend of Damsel in distress but had no real organic way of having Daphne show she's not Damsel because just "not getting captured" obviously isn't enough.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it was a hilarious inside joke the writers would tell eachother that finally made it to the new staff in the 00s.

The implication is the writers always intended on a joke that literally nobody but them could know instead of it just being a retcon.

It's partially an act because she likes it, and partially because she's overconfident in herself and the gang.

I actually like when Daphne takes charge. Not because of feminism. But because it allows Fred to be a goober more often.

Wasn't she also smart in New Scooby and Scrappy and 13 Ghosts? Or am I misremembering?

Yes, when they brought Daphne back but not Fred and Velma (except as guest stars) Daphne became as smart as Velma and as good a leader as Fred to compensate.

In the 11-minute mystery episodes she and Scrappy do most of the mystery solving together while Shaggy and Scooby are doing their schtick.

They've never really figured out how to re-incorporate that side of her into the traditional Scooby gang formula (or for that matter those shows' hints that she and Shaggy might be a couple), but it's there.

What's the issue? You can make a character highly capable and still a massive klutz. Case in point.

She's hyper competent and an accident prone ditz. Both of those things can be true. Daphne's the kinda person who'll land double back handspring somersault and then trip on the door barrier on her way out.
