Art appreciation and theory is and was ultimately downstream of religious typology, and simultaneously taking in the different ways of receiving the text or piece into account. Lynch isn't hiding anything, and for frequently non-linear exposition, he does achieve the quality both of "moving paintings" as he likes to say, and of poetry-- he's straightforward, for a guy making mazes and dreams of them.
I don't understand people when they say his movies are totally random or pesudshit, I don't even think most of his films are very opaque, also even if there was nothing beyond entertainment they're really fun to watch
