Real life historical kinos, of course
20th century warfare is boring. Ancient and medieval wars were kino
I dunno man, I think Medieval and Ancient warfare in movies isn't very authentic.
Its not supposed to be 100% real, its supposed to look cool and entertain you. You think the ancient spartans looked like some burly scottish guys?
It has gotten extremely impersonal and non meritocratic. There used to be skill in warfare, opportunities to really be good and make a name for yourself, now it's just an artillery/air force barrage frickfest and meat grinder.
The patriot and we were soldiers, also apocalypto and the passion. Basically anything touched by Lord Gibson
You might like They Shall Not Grow Old
>The patriot and we were soldiers, also apocalypto and the passion. Basically anything touched by Lord Gibson
should watch gallipoli as well
Beautiful
I’ve been told operating these was awful
Oh they were. The Tank Museum on YT has lots of good videos about it.
Yes, especially Mark V that didn't have good ventilation. Somehow Bongs managed to downgrade it
Cope cage at 0:21
The Last Duel is supposedly good. Seven Samurai, The Northman, Kagemusha, Ran, and Throne of Blood (basically any Kurosawa samurai film) are fantastic
Seconding Kagemusha. Just make sure you survive the opening 5 minute long static shot.
The first time I tried watching it in my old university film hall and I fell asleep within minutes, jej (it didn’t help that I was also baked)
I think you would love El Cid
Ben-Hur (1959)
War and peace, Soviet version. Not medieval or ancient but probably the most massive epic battles I've ever seen
Spartacus
really just check out 50s and 60s historical epics, it was the golden era for that kind of kino

Why is this allowed?
Sad!
digital cameras were a mistake
There was a reason for this. Olivier was going for a medival drawing aesthetic, so things were not in correct perspective or very colourful, as if it cam from a drawing from one of the chronicles of the time. Other versions went for a more realistic early 15th century look.
>largest parts of high end medieval economies was the import/export of dyes and materials for the upper and middle classes
>this means that all they wore was grey and plain armour and also the sky was grey all the time
>so things were not in correct perspective or very colourful
there was so much color in medieval times it woulud be bewildering if one was to see it with a time machine. In Europe and in Japan and everywhere possible.
Generation kill
Master and commander
Badaber fortress
1917
Platoon
Master and Commander.
Cromwell and The Last Samurai
The patriot, Kingdom of Heaven (the long version), Master&Commander, Apocalyptica, Last Samurai.
>Chimes at midnight
It inspired braveheart’s action sequences
Orson Welles is the best Falstaff.
shame about jessica langes bad accent though
>he wants to watch the silly boat movie again
Ben-Hur
Is there even a proper 30 years war movie? And not some papal/noble intrigue shit but showing the actual mayhem happening in Germany for example? It was the most devastating war in the west all the way to WW1 but it’s largely ignored.
There is a ton of good intrigue/warfare from 1500-1700 between and within European powers that just goes criminally overlooked in movies and shows. Maybe it's for the best now as they'd cast a bunch of ass shaking nigs at this point.
The Last Valley with My Cocaine and Omar Shariff
It’s just not bombastic enough, there’s not enough explosions or good guy/bad guy or even a red thread to follow. Directors would probably wrap their brains around on a ”main character” or try to spin it towards one denomination, who would be the main character? Gustavus Adolphus charging down with Sweden and their mercenaries? The french intervention? The peace of Westphalia?
They should really make an Andrew Jackson epic.
could not be done in today's climate and portray him as the hero. if such a movie were to be made about him surely he would be the villain
Get on it, Shapiro. Get Mel involved.
Counterfeiters
La Revolution Francaise
My favourite scene is when Robespierre is giving his speech and gives a look like he just shit himself when the start asking for the names.
the casting was really good. robespierre looks exactly like an older version of that homosexual kid in class who listens to breadtubers and believes in The Class Struggle(tm) at the wise age of 15 and knows everything.
No homosexual but Saint Just is relentlessly handsome
Outlaw King but you have to ignore the final fight.
anymore like The Lion in Winter or Becket?
as in 11th century politics
Henry V
Post some cold war kino.
Bridge of spies
Outlaw King was good, follows the events after Braveheart where Robert the Bruce is driven
Also puts an amusing spin on the whole thing where he murdered his rival for the throne John Comyn in a church "he wanted to be Comyn's friend and he had to do it because Comyn was going to sell him out" yeah sure pal
The greatest story never told
The Eagle
Shogun 1980 the miniseries is top quality historical kino.
if you're a Mads enjoyer and don't mind subtitles he did some danish historical dramas I thought were really good
>Valhalla Rising
>Legend of Michael Kolhaas
>Royal Affair
also check out:
>Cleopatra (1963)
>Quo Vadis
>The Bounty (boat kino with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins)
>Barry Lyndon
