I was 7 when this movie came out but I actually got to watching it in 69 or 70'. I didn't even follow the plot nor did I understand any of it since I was only a little kid at the time but I got off to simply watching the visuals and being a little boy back then; the special effects and visuals are enough to keep me entertained. I've watched it 5 times over within that year yet never followed the plot even once.
The only ambigious part is the ending???

Still I think 2001 is a mediocre movie, it has some kino shots and scenes of course and of course for when it came out it was artistically beautiful, but as far as an entertaining movie, its pretty shit.
Unironically the sequel, 2010 is a much better and entertaining movie.

I think at the time the visuals would of been mind blowing because they still look great today. Story wise I had no fricking idea what was going on at the end. I was enjoying it until the LSD show started.
