The movie really went to shit when Ermey was out of it.
It's basically two short movies stitched together with Private Joker (and Cowboy, to a lesser extent). I do really like the second movie, but it doesn't begin to compare with the first, and that is primarily due to Ermey. D'Onofrio doesn't get enough credit either, but Ermey outshines the whole cast there so what can you do?
Makes you wonder what would have happened if pic rel had played the Gunny as originally planned.
