Was the first book really a critique of messiahs and populist leaders like Trump? Hear this all the time at but I always thought it was more about the power of the mind and controlling it, yourself, and also the effect environment has on people, the fremen, Paul himself, so on.
>Trump
Weird bait post, but no:
Despite what people, and Dennis think, the first book was not very heavy handed about religion being the opiate of the masses or charismatic leaders being bad. It felt like more of a survey about the nature and ebb/flow of civilization, ecology, life, and the philosophies that guide and determine human thought and evolution. The first movie did a decent job of this with the character Dr. Kynes, how even an off-world or "non-native" fremen character believed in something greater than her in that scene where she said her prayer to the worm on the ornithopter, which was great. I was really hoping that the consecutive films would show this same idea that religion was meaningful and necessary to motivate and guide a civilization of people, just for them to dump it in the sequel and say "religion bad" "powerful leaders bad", and make all the female characters (Chani, Irulan) become characters that stand out against their in-group (chani the fremen, Irulan the bene geserit/imperial house) ideology.
Yeah the movie very much felt like a modern interpretation of what was essentially Lawrence of Arabia + space mushrooms and they turned it into star wars but for angsty teenagers.
No.
It's Hamlet with Space Chechens innasand and drugs. Paul, like Hamlet, is a man that becomes keenly aware of his own destiny.
Populism bad, elitism good. Let's rewind the clock and go back to pre-Enlightenment Feudalism.
it's not the best movie ever or the worst movie ever. it's just a movie
calm down you screeching flailing autists
This.
It was a bit jarring how it was shot like a french cologne commercial but I guess that's also why a lot of people liked it. I thought it was okay. Not crazy good, but okay.
It got me to watch a movie with both Chalamet and Zendaya too which is something.
Zendana ruined the movie
Yeah she fricking sucks in every way. Then you have Pugh who sucks too and the third one has Anya. The producer is a israeli woman. That's why it's female centric with a meme cast
Can't wait until AI software can digitally remove zendaya in place of a white red head in a few years
I hear you brother
Wasn't she a brown redhead? Which sounds weird but given it's 20000 years into the future isn't completely implausible. I guess that can really only be pulled off with AI because redheaded brownoid actors would probably be unicorns to begin with
>Wasn't she a brown redhead? Which sounds weird but given it's 20000 years into the future isn't completely implausible
I'm pretty sure I've seen that before irl, but then you never know with women's hair color.
I enjoyed it for what it was, you would inevitably have to make compromises when putting dune on the silver screen. however it seems to me they weren't confident at all with it leading into a third film during production given the choices to omit the spacing guild entirely and to make chani's relationship with paul antagonistic by the conclusion, which would be an unnecessary plot thread to resolve for messiah when it's likely already gonna be so packed
I feel like a lot of choices the studio made just to distance itself from Lynch's dune (which I think is a tiny bit underrated) at least stylistically. They didn't want things to be so complicated that casual watchers would fall behind before the epic fight scenes. The casting choices obviously reinforce this point.
To me the whole movie felt like dune fed through a textbook formulaic blockbuster filter. And that compromise apparently paid off, literally.
That epic fetus awakening scene was worth the admission ticket alone, at least. I feel like it could've been easy to make that cheesy af
>the spice must flow
is a good line and should have been used
Also saying Holy War instead of Jihad is lame
The space guild will have to be more relevant in the third one, maybe he's saving showing how they use space to fold space for a big reveal
Dunkin bronuts
I didnt like part two very much, one was better.
i haven't been able to get through the first half because it turns into a some teen romance novel like twilight also it doesnt help matters that the chick is ugly as frick
I found it mostly boring as frick, with some cool scenes in it. Chamelet is actually alright in it, and I thought the Elvia guy was pretty good too honestly. Zendaya thought, possibly the biggest miscast in recent times, she is unlikable to the point that I hope a third movie doesn’t get made
I want them to skip a book or two just so they recast both the leads. I can't stand them or how every scene everyone has to *whisper their lines in a very labored emotional tone* then SUDDENLY SHOUT WORDS OUT FOR EMPHASIS...it feels like screenplay for actual mongoloids...by mongoloids.
>I thought the Elvia guy was pretty good too honestly
The entire time I was watching it though I kept thinking it would have been the perfect role for that guy who played the original Daario Naharis in GoT ten years ago.
Agreed 100%

BASED BENIS IS LISAN AL-GAIB
Unlike most anons I don't think Zendaya is innately ugly, just the choice of hair they had for her in this specific film was extremely poorly made and doesn't chime well with her facial shape at all. She should be sporting flowing locks in order to properly frame her pentagonal features
PLEASE BE MY GF
I am not a woman. I will never be a woman.
>pentagonal features
lmfao that's fricked up bro
Hair is the no. 1 deciding factor for how attractively a person is deceived, it's the truth. If you've got a weak chin a pomade will retroactively work against your visual appeal while a buzzcut can be its savior, hence why a lot of black guys are nearly bald
breasts or gtfo
For me she's even too pretty for the role. Too... dainty? I'm not sure I'm buying her as this hardy desert girl. The actress who played her friend was a much better choice, IMO.
Kinda agree with you on that front. I'm just arguing Zendaya isn't ugly, not that she was the best choice for Chani.
It's a shitty film.
Am I the only person that thinks the first movie was better?
