Hoult rarely leads major movies, he tends to play a supporting part (Xmen, Mad Max Fury Road).
The movies he leads are weird shit like Renfield or a Tolkien biopic from a couple of years ago that were too obscure to expect to make money anyway.
His only real bomb was probably that Jack the Giant Slayer movie from a decade or so ago.
