It was bad.
It doesnt feel like it fit with the original series in terms of tone so it feels like obvious corporate fan fiction cash in shit, it has diversity casting up the ass, and its not a compelling story and the characters suck and are stupid. It has none of the charm of the original series and instead is a miserably nihilistic sludge heep that is trying really hard to be some sort of realpolitik thing, but it just comes off as really really stupid.
Team Black are clearly the protagonists despite Rhaenyra being a tactless, guileless moron
At this point it's a requirement for all of the protagonists in the TaxPolicyverse to be catastrophically stupid

People just murder each other for no reason in this show, and no one cares or gives a shit. Theres also the different princes asking for the queens hand in marriage and two of them fight and kill each other and the court just rolls their eyes.
Admittedly the Uncle did just immensely piss off Viserys to the point where he personally was about to cut his tongue out. The king probably wasn't that upset about his brother killing him instead.

Forgettable
Not as good as early GoT, but enjoyable. Refreshing to watch something GoT related and have it not be dogshit.
It's a very well made show with mediocre source material with a few giga moron moments. 7/10.

I hate woke shit just like every normal human being but there is just no too much of it that it is kinda alright, given that the rest of the story and characters is alright. I'm buying their stories, how they behave and interact and the way the world is depicted. It is still massive bullshit that one of the old and noble Valyrian family is a bunch of niglet mutts but at least they kept the Targaryans white and made good casts for them. The music is good too and the overall decors and costumes and armors is fricking amazing, never seen anything like it. The first episode was grandiose in that respect, the tournament scene for example.
Also both Rhaenyras and Daemon are great, they alone make the show good.

S2 is currently having 3 MONTHS of reshoots because what they filmed during the strikes, with no writers/showrunners, was pure shit (shock).
WB are also going to insist it's rushed out because strikes also mean there is very little in the way of scheduled *content* to put on Max this year.
S1 was bad but S2 is going to be way worse.
Matt Smith mentioned at a convention that he had never gotten a script as late as season 2. Obviously rushed out before the strike but then had no way to do last minute script changes like you said.
Other than her bullshit pronouns and bad haircuts she uses to try to act unique and different there’s nothing androgynous about her. Immediately cleans up nicely when she gets paid so it’s easy to ignore.
Matt Smith has been a great Daemon, mainly because he's allowed to be a scumbag. Worse thing about HoD is how much fricking whitewashing they're doing to both female leads.
