After movies like Robocop in the late 80s, Starship Troopers is very straightforward and the military ads/news are incredibly tame. If something is supposed to be satire, they needed to over-exaggerate it.

The Bugs would have been more sympathetic if they had gone to the negotiating table and talked with the humans so that they could prevent anymore more war. They didn't do that either in the books or the movie. In the books, the humans tried to initiate talks of some sort especially since they were losing the war, but as some other anons have pointed out, the Bugs were unwilling to go tot he negotiating table, unwilling to talk about hostage exchanges, etc.
But the Bugs, it was either kill all humans as it was in the movie, or it was kill and/or capture humans and hold them captive for study(like as it is jn the book).
Your take on the morality of the factions in this film literally does not matter in any way.
