Tencent made a word for word adaptation (except for the red guards lol) and it was kinda meh. There's a lot of heady themes that don't translate well.
Books 2 and 3 are even harder to adapt but Netflix will just cancel after S1 anyways
They’re shit writers but good at screen adaptations. The books are shit, at least D&D know how to structure a story
Tencent version (and Chinese series in general) get paid by the episode so they tend to pad things out.
I'm actually looking forward to the Netflix version, showing the international side of ETO and adding characters might help tell the story better.
