I really like it, especially the first 20 minutes of pure stop motion KINO. The OST is also excellent.
Though after the 20 minutes, it tends to drag out and the live-action is not to the same quality as the first Assassin.
I also found that these sorts of films need to be explored in terms of their meaning of the world, but I am hesitant to, as Phil Tippet pretty much said that this film can be whatever you want it to be. So, in artistic terms, is only valuable because it's the equivalent of Tippet's vent poetry.

Watched it the other night. Was great but extremely flawed. It's jarring to have some of the greatest stop motion animation ever put to film mixed in with very amateurish looking live action scenes. The only "live action" part that really looked good was the operation/dissection scene where they stop motion animated live actors to make them shake and jitter. Definitely worth a watch but it's a shame it doesn't keep up the quality and momentum of the first half hour through out. Not sure if the rest of the film was made in significantly shorter period of time, budgetary constraints or a loss of passion and vision but the weak second half takes it down from what could have been a total masterpiece.
The crux of all the issues of this film I believe are dirved from the fact that Tippet only worked on this when he was depressed. Leading to absoulte kino in the fields he understands, but the issue of him not being a director really shows the wound when he is telling people what to do, especailly when the actors have nothing to work with and when they are amatures.
