Is kind of weird since they are based on real people and by the real story they don't really end up together either.

Didnt she end up with some other guy

Yes, in Pocahontas 2. John Rolfe

ironic that Disney fans hated the dtv movie and even now the mouse has erased all existence of the Pocahontas Rolfe ship

probably because more people know the actual history. You know, her being 12 at the time, the raping, enslavement, shipped off to London, and dying few years later of disease...

The vast majority of people can't tell you how many people have been president let alone anything about colonial America.

It's been explained pretty well in textbooks for a while now. Even back in the bible belt of the 90s we were taught about the deception, abuse, and imperialism that drove colonial expansion and how it was rationalized in the past under the concept of manifest destiny.

I'm sure introducing firearms, European disease, and puritanism had no effect at all...
The eastern native civilizations were already in decline, but we definitely kicked it over the edge and perpetuated unsustainable foresting and hunting practices with a fervor the natives could only dream of thanks to technology.

Wow so the Natives would have been just as big of buttholes as they always were. Wow, it's like blaming europe and whites for the basic ills of man is incredibly racist.

No, but saying those things were specifically being done by only the western Europeans at the time when that is not the case is moronic. You are unironically judging those cultures by a different standard when they shouldn't be. Aztecs and North American Natives were raping, pillaging, and enslaving others for millennia and they don't get an automatic pass just because a bigger stronger came along and did the same thing they had already been doing

Nobody's saying it's being done by only Western Europeans stop saying it's trying to make it so Pacific when nobody seen is that specific.

No you're accusing them of something no normal person would find acceptable so you're just exaggerating their claims Beyond all common sense in order to make your side sound reasonable. It's basically the same thing the people who hate transsexuals when they say people who except transexuals say you need to have sex with a transsexual man posing as a woman or else your homophobic When no one who accepts transsexual has that standard.

No one here is trying to absolve the natives, but painting settlers as innocent would be just as nonsensical. Back to the point of the thread though, the relationship between those two was not only an unbalanced power dynamic(child and adult), but also exploitative and ultimately toxic.

actually the strains the decimated the native populations of North and MesoAmerica originated in europe, so yes European diseases. It's silly to believe that the same diseases that originated in Asian 3,000 years ago is the same ones

Native Americans committed genocide mass murderer and far greater atrocities than Europeans ever did do you have any evidence to back this up besides Native American stabilized m-my Catholic Church leader inform me? Because just look at the Thirty Years War that kind of damage being maintained on each other would not have been sustainable but if it was normal before the Europeans got there there would be practically none of the Native Americans death for the Europeans to Wipeout.

Oh please you see it in practically every documentary about the wild west get the United States government was paying people to go and kill Buffalo at an alarming rate And those documentaries do mention get it was to hurt the Native American population.

not only did the government pay bounties on buffalo kills to starve native americans, they also placed bounties on their scalps. When those bounty hunters couldn't find them, they resorted to Mexicans. Pretty well documented.

Because this ship is such shit that was uncanonized in its own movie series.

I'm pretty sure most don't know the actual story of Pocahontas though. Almost no one is given a geninue deep dive into native American history. We get very brief run downs of what happened.

There's a whole story behind Pocahontas but all most people know is that she saved John Smith (that certainly didn't happen, even removed from a romantic context) and that she eventually was with that other dude (you'd be lucky if most people even knew she was raped, much less the context behind the attack)

          >Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
          >Or ask the northeast forests how they thinned
          >Can you hunt the buffalo to extinction
          >Then blame it on the people with white skin
          >Can you war with all the colors of your kin

          >They didn't start the war
          >They didn't even hunt buffalos, you absolute fricking moron, they were on the eastern coast.

What happened was they started their colony on terrible land. The river they settled on was brackish and they drank directly from it. Many working men would fall sick from waterborne illnesses. A good portion of their colony consisted of nobles who considered manual labor beneath them. The region was experiencing a severe drought when they made their colony. Combine all these factors, and you have a colony in constant famine. Because they didn't have enough food for themselves, they began to loot food from the local natives, which caused them to get into a protracted conflict with the Powhatan Confederacy.

They did eventually win, but John Smith did not, by the way. He would be injured in fighting, and the colony would flounder for years after that, constantly losing large portions of it's population to Powhatan fighters. John Smith would never return to see a successful Jamestown.
