Much of the humor comes from wordplay, misunderstandings, and the brothers' massive egos being deflated. That said, many of the stories have a strong emotional component. We see the brothers, their father, and their friends grapple with very serious problems that many could identify with. As pompous as Frasier is, he abides by a strict moral code, which he tangles with time and again when it is put to the test. Despite his flaws, he is, at his core, a good man who loves his family. And when all is said and done, who else are you going to turn to, but your family?

I've never watched Keeping Up Appearances, but yes, this all sounds a lot like Frasier. Some of the strongest episodes of the show for me were the ones where he and Niles clash with their father over the latter's perceived boorishness.

I partially understand why Seinfeld was so popular but I have no clue how friends was popular nor can I remember why I even liked it when I was a tween. It has aged horrifically, it's technically newer than Seinfeld which is aged to the point many of the situations are completely unrelatable but George and Kramer's autism make the show funny. With friends I have no idea what anyone was thinking when they enjoyed it even myself.

I started counting situations that just don't happen in modern society anymore in just a few blocks of episodes while I was there and in three nights there were over half a dozen situations that could never happen today.
