because of his pre-conceived notions of Walt's character
Hank thinks Walt's a mild mannered dweeb who would fold and shit himself at the first sign of trouble
it blinds him to the evidence and truth in front of him

The beauty of Hank is that he’s sort of an aloof “one of the boys” type so much that it overshadows his actual intelligence. If he applied himself more he’d probably be considered insanely gifted. My theory is he was bullied in high school or some shit and so overcompensates with the locker room attitude as an adult, and just absolutely pussy whips himself in his joke of a marriage to a person that seems like such a black hole of a personality you have to wonder why they’re together. You notice when he and Marie find out about Walt, they both are much more tolerable people because their entire facade just drops. But also frick him and his attitude. His wife was out stealing shit and being a miserable c**t to people but he’s so Ronald Reagan about Walt’s drug lord life it sickens me.

He never cared about Marie, or Skyler, or Walt or Gomie. He only cared about minerals. No one understood until it was too late.

It’s a thing. Boring suburbanites are into it. Like Liz in Shrinking. Hank had nothing to do and was traumatized so it gave him something to focus on.

I think they were trying to give him some sort of personality. They failed

It's to show that Hank, like Tony in the Sopranos, must always keep moving and doing stuff or else he's forced to think about his own life and choices, which is the last thing he ever wants to do. When forced to sit by himself, he obsesses over random shit and drives himself crazy to avoid introspection.
In BB it was very hamfisted as Hank got addicted to rocks and fantasy football. In The Sopranos it was a lot more subtle and showed Tony obsessing over the office fantasy football pool (coincindence?), having random sex, and developing a rash. I think the Hank character was at least in part inspired by Tony as Hank smokes cigars, is big into machismo, and even wears the same bowling shirts.

isnt it implied he was gay or sterile? you can tell his wife really wanted to have kids and she is mentally broken or coping hard with a gay husband and no kids she spent all day making up a fake life

I don’t think so. I really just think he was insecure and himself built a fake life hiding behind a badge (like most cops, so go figure). Catching big bad drug dealers was a rush for him. I don’t think he cared about actual justice, but just wanted to the the guy to bring the bad guys in.

The show tries too hard to paint Walter as pure evil. In a rewatch I feel sorry for him
      >Shit wife
      >Could have made money but instead another guy gets rich instead
      >son broken because of shitty wife lack of care
      >Hank all day showing off playing alpha male
      >shitty job
      >gets cancer
And at the end of the day he still will leave a huge FORTUNE to his shitty family. In this shitty economy I sure would be grateful if my father left me all that money to live a comfy, selfish life

Walter did some fricked up shit, but it’s insane for Hank to get so god damn up in arms over the reveal. How many dumbass teenagers do you think Hank threw in the clink for petty weed or coke dealing, and he probably ruined their lives. He was just mad that he missed all the clues and wanted to bring in his trophy.

DEA agents aren't arresting small time weed dealers.
Also, all drug dealers should be executed.

I still don't get why this triggered his realization. He didn't learn any new information. It just makes the character out to be a moron, which he is, but he was portrayed as less moronic than his cohorts.
Daily reminder that Walt wasn't smart, he just surrounded himself with dumb people to make himself feel good.
