The plot of the boys is one of the most moronic things ever printed in comics. Its a War on Terror political commentary is more on the nose than Lil' Bush. The entire convoluted mess of story culminates with "uh actually the Millitary already had a bunch of anti-homelander ICBMs laying around and The Boys didnt know despite working for the Govt because uhh"

The Boys is many things, but it's commentary is not particularly intelligent. It's strongest writing is in its characters, but the actual plots and commentary are pretty basic. It's in its daring to actually get DC to print any of this, and then get kicked out because of that, that makes it "seem" intelligent. Because no one else was making this kind of edgy commentary on the industry. Not because it was hard to come up with, but because most simply wouldn't dare.

It was kicked because Paul Levitz told Garth Ennis that DC parodies were fair game but don't involve Marvel's ones. When Ennis broke down that promise they let him go.

Post one page from the Boys containing intelligent critique of the comic book industry.

I'm not even saying the comic really sucks, it's just that even if you enjoy it (I 50/50 here) and agree with it's stance of capeshit (I totally do), it's still unquestionably much dumber than an average greentext thread on /b/.

see, wanted was similarly edgy but it took it's stupidity much less seriously. Yes, they had a character who was a shapeshifter made of poop, but it was a fairly straightforward dark power fantasy. The Boys fully believes it's own dumb ideas.

Anon, you better come off your high horse and explain how the Boys comic is
    A. A satire of the comic book industry
    B. A intelligent satire in general

Because honestly, The show does political satire of our current age of celebrity culture and consumerism in its first 2 seasons way better then the comic EVER did for the Bush era.

      A) Not that anon, but wasn't there a character in the comics that was explicitly a comic artist that helped make capes popular and make Voight successful despite it producing nothing of value?

      B) Good thing you used the word intelligent, because it definitely is satire.

        Anonymous

Not really. Vought has real life superheroes, that's what made them so popular in the comic scene. Homelander would 'save' a bunch of children and then there would be a comic about him saving a bunch of children. Eventually, as the heroes become more and more unhinged, the comics are used as PR to try and justify why Homelander punched someone in half.

I know we like to rip on The Boys and Ennis when he goes overly violent and dumb, but the one arc with Super Duper, despite its toilet humour, was actually really well thought out not just from a storytelling point of view, but the ideas and emotions it transmits.

Ennis has really good ideas, but often buries them in figurative and literal shit. The question is how much shit is on top. Like his Punisher, which is generally shit free.

For every "Professor X is a pedo," you do get some genuine characters with genuine ideas to boot.

(And for every tard calling Homelander a baby eater, actually read the comic.)

I'll agree that Super Duper is probably one of the better arcs in The Boys, but in my opinion, it didn't go far enough and the way Super Duper lost, like, sixty IQ between chapters and turned into a bunch of drooling morons kind of felt like Ennis realized that he'd accidently made a 'good' superhero team and backpedaled super hard to 'oh, but it's because they're clinically moronic.'
