No one has even come close to surpassing his excellence.

You guys who cling to this Shelly Duvall homosexualry should watch the behind the scenes doc Kubrick’s wife made about The Shining, worst he ever said to her was “I don’t think it’s helping you” when she wanted to smoke a cigarette; meanwhile, Shelly lies on the fricking floor at one point because jack was getting more attention than her on the set.

It's a shame his life and work is now associated with schizo conspiracy theories but what can you do.

If you know anything about his creative process you would know this was by design. His films are meant to be viewed on many levels of plot from basic to esoteric and he was obsessed with cryptology and symbolism. It's not a shame either because his films are culturally more important than any current schizo theories about them. His cinematic artistry will far outlive them.

I would agree with you if only Hitchwiener was a contemporary of Kubrick. The fact is the bulk of Hitchwiener's movies were made before 1968.

That's even more damning to Kubrick's body of work.

If only those notes were available. Most would have been accumulated in the 60s and 70s, decades before the modern narratives were set in stone.

To me, it seems like more evidence that he was working for Anglo-American Intelligence and had been since at least as early as DR. STRANGELOVE.

You have to be fricking moronic to think this. It doesn't make you a cinematiste because you like le black and white early films. He has only masterpieces in his core catalog. A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut... cultural and archetypal masterpieces all.

from the beginning he was prepped as the new golden boy by Hollywood. when FailSafe was coming out the same year as Dr Strangelove, he threw a hissy-fit and made Columbia Pictures buy the film and make it release only after his own.

Michael Herr reported in his memoir on working with Kubrick that the latter never got over Jack Nicholson making more money on THE SHINING than him and that he (Herr) considered it the only really israeli trait he noticed in Kubrick.
