The then-vice president of Cartoon Network was a close friend of his, CN was desperately searching for original content by 1996 and CN also knew Nick was also interested in EEnE but also knew Danny wanted full creative control over the IP.

Lazzo? I can see him doing that considering how he does things.

Lazzo worked well with Tartakovsky too, right?

Not sure. Tartakovsky was like McCracken they both had an in early on as they were working for Hanna-Barbara when the studio just went to animators working for the company and had them pitch shows.

Did he base Eddy off of himself?

He based all three Eds off himself. Each is a different part of his personality cranked up to 11

He's Italian Canadian. Chances are he worked for the mob, and threatened the CN executives at the time to let him keep his rights to the show.

There was a bidding war between all three major kids channels for EEnE
He made a list of demands that were heavily weighted toward himself and CN was the channel that was willing to agree to them for the chance to make the show

Can anyone imagine what EEnE would be like if Nick or Disney got a hold of it?

It would've been legit terrible, with all that executive meddling.

Probably both would be bland inoffensive PC cartoon with no risks.

The biggest thing I fully think would happen is that the Eds would not lose as often as they do. Especially those times they don't fully deserve it.

Less in Danny's image, as Nick/Disney would obviously demand creative control over it and make sure Danny stays in line while he works at DTVA or NAS.

      >coming off a poorly received show on MTV
      >feel done with edgy mature stuff and want to make a kids show
      >come in right in the middle of a bidding war between major networks
      Right place and right time.

Keep in mind the atmosphere was very different at the time. It was "they come to you" rather than "you go to them". In an interview Danny mentioned that he had gotten calls for CN/Nick multiple times beforehand if he wanted to make a show for them and apparently told them to frick off multiple times because he wasn't interested in making kids stuff.

He really is one of the coolest creators up there with Hillenburg. It’s funny how the guys who want it the least end up making the most iconic shows.

    Copyright says Cartoon Network

trick question, he didn't. the unique deal he made with CN gave him creative control over the show AND the ability to produce it at his own studio a.k.a. cartoon (instead of at Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network Studios). but if you look at the copyright notices on literally any piece of Ed merch, for example the season 1 DVD release in 2019 (pic related), it says that the IP and all characters are ™ and © of Cartoon Network. he sold the show to them

they gave up on releasing DVD sets in the U.S. after season 2 for some reason. you can buy the whole show digitally and stream it on HBO Max though

how much do you think Craig McCracken envies him?

      Anonymous

Somewhat. On one hand, he probably hates how his legacy is tainted, but on the other, he pretty much did PPG can do, so he probably wasn't going to visit it any time soon.

        Anonymous

are you sure? I think I heard something about Craig being unable to work on the PPG reboot because he was busy with Wander Over Yonder wat that time

          Anonymous

I assume so, but I don't know for sure. The original PPG went on for a while and you could say they were running out of ideas near the end.

          Anonymous

I don't think he ever actually wanted to work on it, nor did CN really want him. At best he would have been a in-name-only consultant, to make the project seem more authentic. I really don't think they would have pushed PPG as hard as they did if Craig didn't leave the studio

            Anonymous

yeah if they didn't even bothered about bringing the original VA's I don't think CN would bother with him
