I remembered fhe episose a little differently as a young kid. I thkught Homer was heading into the Myst building where hopefully he’d find his way out, or discover some secret truth about the universe, only for the black hole to prevent this. Young me felt deprived of seeing something awesome inside.
When I rewatched many years later was kinda surprised that it was never the case and he was just wondering. Also that the black hole sequence wasn’t as intense (I remembered having a vortex and shit flying around).
It was a pretty big deal to show Homer in 3D and be part of an episode. And then the ending with Homer running through the real world was the cheer on top. A massive shift in style for a segment wasn't common at the time and people really loved it, incentivizing other shows to do it as well.
>Homer running through the real world was the cheer on top
The actual episode was just okay, I've seen "2d character but in 3d" a few times before that, but when he was in the realworld my young mind was blown.
However at the same time I wished they had gotten a live action person to play him.
It was a huge deal, hard to really quantify that now, but it was hyped up for weeks. Watched it over a friend's house, as a sort of event. It felt...weird. Like a new epoch, but also uncomfortable as I was worried about Homer lost in our world. Also a little curt and confusing as the erotic cake gag wasn't well understood as a child.
CGI existed but it was like a rare novelty, an awe inspiring sort of thing. The closing X-Men credits. This game and the late Genesis games like Toy Story. As a kid this sort of the shit was next level. https://youtu.be/NcL_kM9twZk
The funny thing, is that the Treehouse of Horror episode the CGI Simpsons segment appeared in is so fricking good that the hype for the segment backfired because the giant murderous advertisement segment and Nightmare On Elm Street parody were so good that everyone at the time was talking about all three segments, not just the CGI segment.
That episode is one of the golden standards for Treehouse specials because all three segments are pure kino gold.
I remember it actually freaked me out a bit as a kid to see the 3D world just get completely obliterated, like that entire plane of existence ended up a void of nothing because of a relatively tiny mistake that inexplicably poked a hole in reality.
i actually had fever dreams about it when i was young having watched it air. i'm still not certain what the real plot was because of how many times i overwrote the memory of it.
video games already existed moron
This was before Toy Story little zoomer.
Toy Story invented video games
No, I invented video games.
holy shit it's John Toystory

Toy Story invented video games played on Playstation one
>Nobody had ever seen CGI before Toy Story
I hate zoomers so fricking much.
>what is Tron
CGI existed over a decade before Toy Story, zoomie
Pixar has been doing CG since the mid 80s.
Toy Story came out less than a month later.
We'd already seen the trailer and tv adverts.
>pic related was the most advanced a videogame looked at the time
You are a zoomer aren't you?
scared me as a kid thinking about how homer was never gona see his family again

Was it still vibrant on the yaefh feshe man telodwww es eryh bot with a newer base at the bottom?
is this welsh?
Go back
Yes, yes it was.
Hmm-mm, it was like... did anyone see the movie Tron?
Boys, Tron didn't work once, it certainly isn't going to work twice.
How on earth that movie earned cult classic status is beyond me. It was boring as hell.

same studio later responsible for Antz and Shrek
Frick off. Nobody here likes you.
Sharktalegay, everybody knows it's you.
Back to R-eddit
Me and my brothers were in awe.
It felt like that movie TRON. Did anyone see TRON?
how did Homer get back to his world?
He didn't.

bless Pacific Data Images. They made one of the best Treehouse of Horror shorts and one of the best 90s non Disney animated films (Antz)
The fact that Homer enters the cake shop and you hear a bell ring but there's no visible door ruined the experience.
I'm kidding, it was a really cool episode and I loved it. It's still good even after realizing it's based off a Twilight Zone episode
The ending with Homer in the real world made me feel melancholic
Big deal. Still I don't like 3d as much as love to .
Sincerely, I thought it was stop-motion. I guess I was a very stupid kid.
No, i think that's understandable. Don't be so damn hard on yourself.
T-thanks, anon.

>uhhhh what's erotic
t. 7 year old me
>Gross, they’re doing that thing where the characters look like they’re made of balloons
I blew my mind
I thought it was cool, but trivial.
First time i saw it was in a 3D cinema but that was long after release
CyberWorld 2000?
Must have been this. I don't remember the other shorts but there was 3 in total.
Blew my mind, watched The Simpsons at literally every opportunity thinking there was a sequel I missed
I remember it actually freaked me out a bit as a kid to see the 3D world just get completely obliterated, like that entire plane of existence ended up a void of nothing because of a relatively tiny mistake that inexplicably poked a hole in reality.
The ending made me feel bad, because Homer will never see his family again. 🙁
At least he got enjoy some erotic cakes.
