In the Delta Quadrant, a long time ago. At first they were weak, and augmented themselves with technology, but eventually they hit the sweet spot and, not to abuse the viral metaphor too much, "mutated" to the point that they became a serious threat to everyone else. Although strictly speaking they are supposed to be quite old, they really picked up steam and got rolling around Earth's Renaissance period.
Star Trek lore of all things is very easily searched on the internet, you know. It's one of the core bodies of knowledge that the internet concerned itself with its heydey. You can type strings of key words into an internet search website, which yields several web links which you may find interesting on this topic. There's a few thorough "youtube" videos on the same subject. Please consult your search engine to learn what "youtube" is.
Which is scary to think because they could have taken us over with barely any fight if they arrived here during that period
The idea that I'd really like to see explored is a person, or group of people who freely and voluntarily give themselves to the Borg, with full knowledge of what they are and what they're about. Could have masochistic/BDSM/cultlike undertones a la Hellraiser (and to think, I hesitated!). Has such a perverse idea ever been explored in any content, in comics, say?
7 of 9 did it in one flash back episode , but she'd already been assimilated and was only experiencing temporary individuality. Theres also the venculum species who willingly got assimilated, but that was to infect the collective with a virus, similar to Ichep's people
Borg are only supposed to assimilate technology/people that can improve the collective, otherwise they straight up ignore you. I doubt the Borg would have any use for primitive cultists.
Source? Where did they say that?
In Voyager, Icheb's race was literally hiding from the Borg by living primitively. And Seven at one point said the Kazon were too primitive for the Borg to target.
We wouldn't have been worth assimilating at the time. the borg only assimilated species that can better the collective technologically. The borg is basically a fat kid who only eats candy, and 1400s earth was a salad
don't worry this shit ain't really homie
But the thought of it is scary enough. Also it's a possibility that there is some borg like cybernetic race out deep in the universe that assimilate other races into their collective. Though they are probably only in the far deep end of outer space.
The Borg originated in theDelta Quadrant. (Star Trek: First Contact;VOY: "Dark Frontier", "Dragon's Teeth") According to theBorg Queen, the species known as the Borg started out as normal plainlifeforms; (Star Trek: First Contact) they had been developing for thousands of centuries before the24th century, and over many years, they evolved into a mixture oforganicand artificial life withcyberneticenhancements. (Star Trek: First Contact;TNG: "Q Who")
By1484, the Borg had assimilated only a handful ofstar systemsof the Quadrant and they had many encounters with theVaadwaur(VOY: "Dragon's Teeth") but by2373, the Borg had assimilated thousands of systems. (Star Trek: First Contact;VOY: "Unity", "Scorpion", "Scorpion, Part II") Their territory was intersected by a narrow corridor ofspacefilled withgravimetric distortions, eventually nicknamed the "Northwest Passage" by thecrewof theFederationstarshipUSSVoyagerduring the Borg's conflict withSpecies 8472. (VOY: "Scorpion") The farthest border of the Borg realm within the Delta Quadrant seemed to be theNekrit Expanse. (VOY: "Fair Trade", "Unity", "Distant Origin")
Why does he have an inverted orange nipple for an eye?
Could a shotgun stop a borg?
I always wondered this those motherfrickers can't adapt their energy shield to bullet
Picard murders one with a tommy gun in first contact. So yes, a shotgun could kill one or two before they adapt to lead projectiles
But wasn't that just a hologram. So he was just shooting kinetic balls of light at it?
interesting. wouldn't the hologram take on the properties of a real bullet?
eat my shit
its heavily implied, if not outright mentioned at some point. theres instances where star fleet crew members infiltrate borg ships and walk right by them without being assimilated because they don't pose a threat. its also mentioned somewhere that borg assimilate entire species, not individuals. they assimilate to perfect themselves, and if the species isn't even capable of war, its doubtful they would take them
eat my shit
This was just a stupid fan service scene in a dull action movie based on a great sci fi show. First Contact is so stupid.
Same thing all TNG stuff does - out of the writers ass
the borg queen literally explains their origin in first contact
> Human! We used to be exactly like them. Flawed. Weak. Organic. But we evolved to include the synthetic. Now we use both to attain perfection. Your goal should be the same as ours.
Everything out of First Contact isn't canon. It's all just a dumb movie.
Q conjured them up in Q Who
They didn't exist before that.
-The Federation treat the Borg like they are some sort of "universal threat".
-The reality is that the Borg are just one of hundreds of ultra powerful high level species in the Galaxy. Some remain a secret. Others are more public like the Borg.
-The Federation are just so low on the totem poll of existence that they can't see how insignificant they truly are compared to the top dog races of the Galaxy. The Federation are frogs in a well.
Both Q and Guinan confirmed this. Q called the Federation an arrogant and foolish baby race while laughing at them. Guinan was nicer about it, and said the Federation will slowly learn.
What are the other races mentioned in the series that would fit this "top dog" category?
species 8472
El-Aurian
the Q
the dominion
the caretaker species
that species from next gen that turned broccoli into a super genius
that species from voyager that warped the entire ship just to share data with each other
the dionsaurs
If the El-Aurian are so cool then how come the Borg killed them all
borg are also top dog
only because of the klingon federation romulan alliance and odo betraying his own people. also plot armor
What would you do with shapeshifting powers? I think I’d probably just loaf around like I currently do
i certainly infiltrate nations, establish banking syndicates and foment wars among other peoples for my own benefit, that's for sure
Pose as well-known criminals who've avoided conviction and commit extremely public crimes.
Alternatively, pose as celebrities and commit extremely public crimes.
alternatively alternatively, pose as politicians and commit extremely public crimes.
>What would you do with shapeshifting powers?
I'd become a gas and explore interstellar space or go down into the core of the earth.
what was this gay's problem?
Well, shapeshifters are a lot like people, anon. Some of them act badly because they’ve had a hard life or have been mistreated. But, like people, some of them are just jerks.
Rape
The Dominion wasn't that much of a threat. They got absolutely BTFO in the end.
>Watching tv in kitchen at home as a kid
>Star Trek commercial comes on
>Episode clip shows some guy using a device to make Seven of Nine naked
>This somehow didn’t get me into Star Trek
Isn’t it better if you figure out you’re gay at a young age? Like psychology and whatnot
I’m definitely straight, the late night Girls Gone Wild commercials got me.
Talk about perfection!
>-The reality is that the Borg are just one of hundreds of ultra powerful high level species in the Galaxy. Some remain a secret. Others are more public like the Borg.
still can't believe how uninteresting this aspect of their universe became in the bakula star trek
they went right back to Klingons/Romulans and Borgs/borglike enemies after
Are the borg supposed to be a lovecraftian inspiration?
Humanising the Borg with this "Hugh" shit ruined them
This. They're supposed to be this mysterious lovecraftian threat from the deep unknown parts of the galaxy. Hugh was just the writers jerking themselves off over "muh humanity"
Hugh was fine, the Queen ruined the borg.
Absolutely, all this focus on the collective and having any kind of hierarchy totally contradicts that. They would be way more intimidating as mindless destructive drones
some dude just like stuck his dick in a computer and it like fricked him back man
A few different sources said it was fan fiction sent into paramount during the first season but it took some time to figure them out.
They used a good amount of fan submissions, you wouldn't get credit on screen but you would be provided proof for bragging purposes.
