FOX Kids and Kids WB kept on getting dethroned by the three big networks.
Now the same thing is happening with the big three networks with streaming.
That’s how technological advancements work.
Yeah but even the streaming channels dont care about OG animation. Cable networks were the only ones making good animated content for the most part and even they seem to be unwilling to greenlight anything new anymore. Im fricking tired of this animation dark age where the companies literally dont wanna create anything new
Fox and WB were fricked over by the FCC making more and more and more overbearing regulations on them to the point that it was just not feasible to continue trying to have cartoons on any longer. The government was demanding some kind of educational element to almost all shows, and a solid hour of educational material during all children's entertainment blocks. They tried throwing them a bone with Hysteria, but when the half hour was extended to an hour they decided to fricking quit.
Nickelodeon was suffering from the same problem all of Viacom suffered from. Management just decided base ratings were good enough. Spam one show 23.5 hours of the day for maximized ratings. All their channels did this. Ridiculousness on Mtv, Everyone loves Raymond on TVLand, Impractical Jokers on Real, Bar Rescue on spike...
Disney and CN let their channels fall to shit and moved all content over to streaming platforms assuming 500% of all viewers would get 6 or more subscriptions, and then buy at least 3 more reach time a new show came out.
WB was held up by one thing and one thing only at all times: Pokemon. Once interest in Pokemon died down, the 'adult' part of the network started devouring the 'kids' part and eventually there were no more Saturday morning cartoons at all.
CN died by Boston falsifying a bomb threat in order to save face.
Nickelodeon was killed by greedy execs who wanted everything to be Spongebob levels of profit.
Disney was only good in the very early 90's, after that it was hot garbage outside of maybe one good show at a time. Right now it is in the "everything must be Perry the Platypus levels of profitability" phase of decline.
Yeah, to promote the aqua teen movie [adult swim] hid a litebrite Mooninite under a bridge in Boston to film a promo and then left it there afterwards, and because Boston is full of the dumbest people on the east coast (if not the nation) some idiot thought it was a bomb and the city went into a panic. You can find out the details by looking up the "2007 Boston Mooninite panic" but the way it shook out was that then CEO of Cartoon Network Jim Samples was so ashamed and embarrassed that he stepped down and was replaced by Stuart Snyder. Samples was famous for his placing trust in the people running their shows, such as with Samurai Jack, Billy & Mandy, & Foster's. Snyder was infamous for CN Real.
Cartoon Network killing itself over some stoner garbage from Adult Swim and the Boston PD being too moronic to recognize that nobody hiding a bomb is going to make it fricking glow is kinda poetic in a way I suppose.
talking solely about the programming schedules, and not any executive level phenomena: >lasted 12 years and was always a mixed bag, with most of its programming remaining relevant after its demise due to getting picked up for syndication on other networks >actually not doing that bad, aside from too much Bluey and a lot of bland shows (Hailey's On It, Superhamster, Miraculous) >spongebob & loud house all day, with Nick Jr. in the morning and live action sitcoms at night >actually not doing that bad, much more diverse schedule this week than the last time I checked, not to mention Checkered Past and [as] actually reairing older shows like Metalocalypse again >were incredibly strong until the 2006 merger with UPN, and then started putting out terrible original programs intermingled with mediocre acquired programs
None of the living networks are anywhere near how good they were in their prime, but Nick is the only one that's really terrible.
>but Nick is the only one that's really terrible.
Real talk looking back was Nick ever actually any good?
No seriously, if you weren't there for spergy moron humor for 9 year olds, you had all of like what, 3 to 4 comedies for most of its life at any given time, and if you wanted anything other than comedies period they had, if you're willing to be very, very generous as to what counts as an action/adventure show and so on maybe 10 series over its entire history total, and of those like all of 4 were good.
Like most of Nick's line up has always be garbage for either very small children or legitimately autistic homosexuals. And yeah, sure, comedies have a proud history and a place in any roster, and yeah it's a kids channel, but there's "comedies having a worthwhile place" and "being a kids channel" and then there's "your entire history of animation has been 90% fart jokes and schizo humor aimed at the mentally underdeveloped."
>tfw cable has had the ability to pause and record shows for over a decade now
I might not have the money to afford any of the bigger channels but the cartoons i get from the educational channels i watch are so comfy.

Except the big three ARE streaming
This. People keep saying that these networks aren't embracing streaming but they are, streaming just isn't as great as people made it out to be.

cellphones and
When they banned advertisers from targeting kids.
Idk, but when i find whoever's responsible i'm going to eat them.

Kids WB and Fox Kids were screwed when their shows would go to the Big 3.
I'd say for the Big 3 streaming is what's killed them, why pay for cable and no point in making a streaming service just for them.
>so bad?
They aren't. You grew up. Let go of childish things.
When they killed off Kids WB then put all their eggs in CARTOON Network, leading to the abomination which was CN Real.

Don't forget how badly CN has fallen?
