Loved it. I hadn't seen a movie in over two years and I had my doubts about whether or not I would see this but I made it to the theatre and was blown away. Mann keeps getting better and better. I loved his hard-edged compositions, the camera movements and the editing. 10/10 film.
There could've been 0 racing scenes and I've been glued to the screen. Driver and Cruz give the best performances Mann has ever directed. Extremely operatic and Italian movie
Glad I'm not alone Ferraribros. A lot of online feedback I've seen has been negative but this was pure kino.
I only have two complaints: >Shailene Woodley struggles to hold her own against the rest of the cast and her "Italian" accent kept slipping > There's a scene after Laura finds out about the mistress and the child where Enzo says she cannot find out about the boy or something to that effect. Surely it would make more sense to have that scene before the revelation? Just thought it was questionably placed
But other than that, it was a gripping story told expertly.
I didn't have a problem with the placing of that scene, since Enzo did not know that his wife had discovered it, but I thought the dialogue was a bit obvious and expositional
Unironically hated it. Driver's character was odd and unlikeable, and his motivations were never really fleshed out like you would expect in a biopic.
There was so little about the cars, how do you make a fricking move about FERRARI without focusing on the cars?? The only scene I can remember that put the spotlight on the engineering was when the brief one where he is explaining the intake manifold to his bastard. Even when the final race was going on they cut away to show his family fricking around and arguing in the kitchen most of the time. And it was all CGI. I can dig a good family drama but for fricks sake I do not care about his bastard that much to make it the focus of the movie, it should have been a subplot, nothing more.
I will say Penelope Cruz stole the fricking show and was the only good part about it. It was also fun seeing the Grey's Anatomy guy get work that isn't an Eli Roth movie although again he felt like he was barely in it.
All I can think about was how much better a movie Ford Vs. Ferrari was.
Sarah Gadon was good though.

Plenty of taste for cinema. I wasn't expecting Fast X or whatever but this movie failed as a biopic and a car movie, and honestly as a family drama as well considering how poorly Driver was directed (I can't say he gave a bad performance because the dialogue and scenes he was given sucked).
I really wanted to like it so seriously, tell me what you thought it did right? Especially compared to Ford Vs. Ferrari.
I liked Mann's hard-edged compositions (the shot with Enzo in the masoleum where you see the side of his head it looks really abstract), the camera movements (during the races they are jerky and mechanical) and the editing (the scene that interecuts the Catholic mass and the race). Also the colours were interesting.
There were some interesting shots but too much of the movie seemed to take place in rooms. For all the arguing over the factory and talk about producing cars I dont think we ever got a scene of the assembly floor or engineers working? The cinematography of the races were adequate but the CGI lessened the beauty of it, to me.
I did not understand the scene in the mass, how did they know the lap time when they were in the church? They're all looking at their stopwatches as if they could hear or see it and it was just confusing.
Fantastic kino that's better than the majority of films slated to get nominated on Tuesday

No it was fricking boring too much family drama not enough racing
I have enjoyed all of Sarah Gadon’s performances
Sarah Gadon is a fantastic actress.
did someone mention Sarah Gadon yet?

I wasn't expecting the level of Italianness of the film, but in retrospect I should have known Mann would've made it feel authentic.
"y'all folks"
Take that shit back to Twitter.

They were listening for the starter pistol shots.
Sarah Gadon was the best part.
