Giving Mandark Hippie parents made for a very interesting contrast but it also felt very out of left field, and seemed to contradict things we've seen before. Like the fact that his middlename is "Asimov." It also ignored Mandark's sister, which fit with the very depressing trend of Savino jettisoning nearly the entire side cast. Which was really strange considering the strength of Loud House under his run was the massive cast of side characters.
But even with all my complaints about the Savino run, this wasn't so bad of an episode. Fleshing out Mandark as a character and giving him a goofy home life was one of the better decisions in the season. Lowkey Mandark's mom is bussin' fr. I'd hit that so hard.
It ranks up there with the robot episode in terms of Savino episodes that weren't half bad.

There was a time when crossdressing jokes were considered an easy, cheap laugh in cartoons, television, and film and you could stick them in without it being a big fricking to-do that gets you and everyone you work with blacklisted from the industry.
In British stuff it was common as muck but in American media it seemed much more rare. Dexter seems excess either way.

I rather liked this episode. It gave Mandark more depth, it made him into a person defined by himself instead of his environment, and it called out parents who screw over their kids with their own choices and radical beliefs.
