>The short, meant to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Walt Disney Animation Studios, features 543 characters from throughout the company’s history — including some that fans thought we might never see again, like Aladdin’s Genie, voiced by the late Robin Williams.
>As the filmmakers repeatedly stressed, they didn’t use special effects or AI to craft the moment, unlike other filmmakers resurrecting cast members for movie roles.
>“It was actually direct lines from past recordings,” producer Yvett Merino told Polygon at the preview. “When we do animated recordings on any feature, there are a number of takes. So we were able to find this line that fits so well in our short.”
>And Disney doesn’t intend to create its own version of that monster. “We are a flat no on [AI] right now,” producer Brad Simonsen told Polygon. “Matter of fact, you’re not allowed to use AI in the building.”
>The Once Upon a Studio creative team, including directors Dan Abraham and Trent Correy, reached out to Robin Williams’ estate early on, sharing storyboards of the short and outtake selections from Aladdin. As Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer (and Frozen director) Jennifer Lee put it, the company got the estate’s blessing to proceed.
>“It was so important to us to share our earliest version of the short with Robin’s team,” Merino said. “So many of us who work here at Disney Animation were inspired by Aladdin and Robin’s performance. It meant the world that they said yes to his inclusion in the short — and [it was] so special that Eric Goldberg, who animated Genie for the [original] feature film, did the animation here as well.”

>The year 2001 is not the same as the year 2023
Well yeah no fricking shit dumbass
I'm not that anon, but the intervals of technological advancement has been exponential since the Industrial Revolution. Something like a wooden warship would have been peak technology pressed into service for several decades reaching to a century in the past. Now in 10 years passage of time the world is a completely different place entirely.
I have no idea what I'm even trying to say with this future implication, but hand-waving it like it's something that's always been this way is equally as ignorant as people who want to cling onto the old ways.
/b/ is that way timmy
/b/ no longer exists
What the frick does this even mean? Is the 15 year old on ifunny who made this trying to tell me the israelites invented time?
>talk about nostalgia and the ravages of time
>immediately blames israelites
no anon, you are the antisemite
I wanted a comfy thread for this short's debut tonight do you really have to be the homosexual that does this?
>“It was actually direct lines from past recordings,” producer Yvett Merino told Polygon at the preview. “When we do animated recordings on any feature, there are a number of takes. So we were able to find this line that fits so well in our short.”
They were specifically forbidden from doing this by Robin Williams...
was that directive before king of thieves or after, cuz’ he loosened up enough to do stuff for like, disneyquest
unless it was in his contract, which it clearly wasn't, no they weren't and by that time in his career he would have know that
Disney used AI 30 years ago in The Lion King and The Hunchback. Crowd scenes were generated to have behaviour using advanced computer programming. DreamWorks also did this in Antz. Keep pretending that it's never going to happen though 😉
those were particles disguised as models you need to rewatch those movies again
no anon you don't understand
computers = ai
>Keep pretending that it's never going to happen though 😉
It isn't, audiences think AI looks like shit. Look up Disney's AI crowds in one of their recent streaming movies.
>Disney's AI crowds
dude thats fricking terrifying, i hate how their harsh limp movements look like possession
Holy christ the animatronics in It's A Small World have more life in their eyes than that crowd.
Jesus Christ, fricking cheapstakes. Just pay a few more hundred dollars for a few more extras.
Those look like broken down animatronics
how the frick is this cheaper than hiring some good with non-speaking lines to sit on a bench and clap?
2004 be looking gud, Mouseketeers!
People fall for AI images all the time, how does that make sense? When you talk about how it "looks", you merely mean that you perceive it is unacceptable in your industry culture.
And the idea that AI is meant to replace people is your shill strawman, I'm already incorporating AI into my work, it extrapolated a character for me.
>And the idea that AI is meant to replace people is your shill strawman
>it extrapolated a character for me.
It's quite telling how the biggest shills of AI on this board are the attention starved tripgays with nothing of actual value to their name.
Pedophile, your abuse methods are not going to be successful. Let's break it down
>Supposed contradiction
Yes genius, I didn't say AI contributes nothing, I said that it is involved in my work. I have drawn and written for this character. Go ahead and explain how that doesn't count, queer ass commie homosexual.
>are the attention starved tripgays
"Attention" is a belittling term for the needs of artists, and so you're saying that I'm starved of my needs. That the sort of thing you enjoy? Well the sort of thing I enjoy is exposing your culture for $0.
"Tripgay" is a symbolic term that I trip up your narratives.
>with nothing of actual value to their name.
This next part affirms that I'm exploited by your industry through things like Gravity Falls, and I'm given no credit for this, so there is "no value" given to "my name". But you seem to have forgotten that Magnifico is featured in an upcoming film, confused one.
Having fun as I expose your code talk? I'm putting so much effort in because I'm going to screenshot this for an article and for other reasons
>Industrygay got a trip
Fricking finally, now I can filter your homosexual ass. Also way to prove you're not a worthless attention prostitute, here's that (you) you ordered.
>Jolting because I endangered your future in animation
I see you tried to get out some words from around the Disney and lgbtq wieners in your mouth, but you were unsuccessful and just did more pedophile babble. Going to put together this messaging barrage, you didn't hex it away with textual molestation
Btw, you should read my articles about the trickster who is the supernatural Lord that maintains cartooning if you want to post a lame GIF like that, it just illustrates that you think I don't know things I do know
Have you ever gotten a reply from the people you email? Can you post screenshots?
Oh thank god.
Have a (You) and here’s hoping you keep your username from now on. That way it’s easy for me to find you’d posts. 🙂
I see that you're troubled by how the villain of an upcoming Disney movie is associated with a Cinemaphile poster, and expressing this in a perverted way. Considering how many people in the industry have used this board, that's their fault for not nurturing a better relationship with it.
>Silence
I'm going to message about 80 industry people since you can't give a real response. Have fun
>People fall for AI images all the time,
Dumbasses like you fall for AI images all the time, not the rest.
>I'm already incorporating AI into my work, it extrapolated a character for me.
Bet you have a boring dull job nobody cares about and that's your only creative output. Sad little welp.
The point that was that there's no magical feeling of "looking like shit" to tip them off that they are looking at AI images, you're just reporting on your own internal state that you don't want to accept AI regardless of its aesthetics.
>Bet you have a boring dull job nobody cares about and that's your only creative output.
The delusional lust for the prestige of working in Industry animation is all you're after, and I have a webcomic you can read but none of my trolls want to read it.
"Trolling" relates to a fairy tale creature demanding payment, and so it seems you believe that I should be paid for something.
How the frick is crowd AI tech the same as voice replication tech?
Those tools exist to assist people rather than to replace them. There's a difference between that use of AI to help animators fill a crowd and the AI abomination crowd from that recent disney school movie.
It's never gonna happen because it always looks like crap. Cope.
>t. ai midwith
AI "recreations" of anyone both dead and alive are friggin creepy. I kinda wish they got an impersonator instead of encouraging this Black Mirror bullshit
I hate that shit is so fricked now that we need outright elaborations that simple archival audio was used and not zombified AI text to speech programs.
>we don't use AI
>proceeds to use AI in other studios, like Star Wars and Marvel
At least be fricking consistent for once.
For anyone that wants to watch it live.
https://thetvapp.to/tv/wabc-new-york-abc-east-live-stream/
Thank you.
STOP FRICKING SPOONFEEDING UNCODED STREAMS
THEY'RE GOING TO KEEP GETTING TAKEN DOWN YOU CLOCK GUZZLING REBARB
Hope she'll do something cute in it.
But Disney used AI with their Marvel Disney+ shows multiple times? It's good it's not in Disney animation, but his words don't represent the whole company. The short is going to be interesting to watch, so we have a link to watch it live?
>"We're above using AI in such a tasteless way"
>But we'll gladly use cheap CG to recreate Grand Moff Tarkin for a single scene that really adds nothing to the whole movie
>Also we just had a spat with our actors and writers over AI usage and PR for us is super shit right now so we need to shill and recover like crazy
Anyone else find it funny they are not doing that great during this 100 year celebration?
Was Walt Disney happy they also turned the Cinderella castle into a giant fricking eyesore cake for a few days as well years back?
Castle cake was a whole year and they vowed to never do a redeco that drastic again because they lost a ton of money on Disney Wedding Pictures since couples didn't want to be caught dead in front of it.
To be fair, CG requires actual artists who know what they're doing in order to look good. AI is just some pajeet typing prompts into an image generator.
>“Matter of fact, you’re not allowed to use AI in the building.”
Maybe pass on that rule to the studio next door, because Secret Invasions was embarassing
>right now
It's all performative, and just like any other company they'll quickly jump on board once it's accepted by the general public or they went on to b***hing about other things.
The other thread will be a discussion thread for the short
>“We are a flat no on [AI] right now,” producer Brad Simonsen told Polygon. “Matter of fact, you’re not allowed to use AI in the building.”
That's an extremely PR statement.
Suffice to say that using AI to recreate dead people on screen without their consent is scummy, but other applications can be legit.
Maybe it’s just me but I would have rather’d they brought in dan castellaneta
Reminder there's like 30 hours of unused Genie audio
?feature=shared
such a charming video
I thought Willam's will stated they were not allowed to use his recordings in shorts or movies until 2040
>“We are a flat no on [AI] right now,” producer Brad Simonsen told Polygon. “Matter of fact, you’re not allowed to use AI in the building.”
As if Disney isn't using AI in every single production they're making at the moment.
they already tested the waters with secret invasion and that shit bombed
they will start using AI the moment it actually benefits them and backpedal hard on this statement lmao
Since when did guy start going by Magnifico?
Magnifico is the next Disney villain so maybe he's just making it obvious he's trolling
