It's such a game changer. Large capacity and automated backups mean that it's literally my own Netflix with 0 % shit content and it will not dissappear. I also have all my obscure and foreign DVDs in it - those will never be on any subscription service.
Plex is shit, just use fmovies. They have more shit than you could ever have on your own Plex server
I don't need to have everything on my disposal - just the things I want to watch. My whole family uses my Plex and I really doubt that it would be easier to watch cartoons from a streaming site than from Plex for my kid. I'm also very sure that none of the illegal streaming sites have decent collection of European non-English content.

Believe it or not, it takes less effort to find content on one torrent site than search for a specific movie or show on multiple streaming sites.
Why don't they just show stuff in the original formats? Not everything is properly formatted to fit modern TVs. Various movies have different formats and there's always going to be the black bars on the top and bottom, but nobody cares about that so just let people get used to black bars on the sides.

OP's pic doesn't show a cropping of the original fullscreen broadcast, but a different, widescreen cropping of the original negatives, which may or may not be worse than the original cropping. You can see that the fullscreen version cuts off part of the picture shown in the widescreen version, and vice versa.

Only DBZ got they cropped treatment from FUNi's own "remastering" technique. Original DB and GT were full screen and Z was later re-released with the Japanese remaster in full screen.
Battlestar Galactica original is a bit of a better comparison or maybe Baywatch. BSG went to BR with cropped and fullscreen options. BW was remastered with new music and cropped for syndication selling plus put on BR (for which the Germans offered the cropped and uncut originals in the BR sets)
