I don’t really notice it. It’s only when the actor looks directly into the camera and says my full name, DOB and Social Security number that I start to think the movie’s a bit weird

I react and respond to whenever the characters call him by name, and get increasingly frustrated when they ignore me.

It’s always been weird because I have a really uncommon/common first name- it’s Martin. So in the US it’s common enough where most people know a guy with my name, but for me, it’s uncommon enough that I’m the only person named Martin that they know. But they’re like aware that that is a name- as in when I introduce myself it’s not coming out of left field like some crazy foreign name they’ve never heard of that catches them off guard. I just think it’s this weird middle ground where if I was named something extremely common like “Mike” or “Steve” or “John” I would be so desensitized to it that it wouldn’t even be noticeable if it came up in a movie, but hearing my own it’s slightly off putting because of how commonly uncommon it is.
Maybe because Steve Martin, and everyone thinks you have a last name for a first name.

Gabriel, fairly common name, biblical, symbolic, you'd think it'd be more common, but I've met more in real life than I have seen in fiction. Also for some reason it's one of the 5 default names chinese kids pick when they move here

i always tell Black folk (and Black person lovers) that my name was italian before it was taken by blacks
It's funny because it's a very popular name, but not that often used in hollywood and when it is, the character is usually black, but the most famous one is double white.

My name is Will. It's so common that I'm not even afraid to use it on Cinemaphile. So it should be no surprise to know when a character uses my name I am indifferent about it.

It's actually William. But it made me think about how no one ever called me by my full name. And I think when you have classic English name with multiple syllables and you're addressed with an abbreviation it's because people don't respect you or they see you as immature (same thing imo).
