I think this is mainly a white people thing. my Mother is Italian so obviously family is very important but my Dad... hates his family, none of them talk to each other, his brother stole all his business contacts and started selling off their family business assets when it got into financial trouble to get as much money for himself, cheated on his wife and left his kids - literally abandoned them without telling them, this severley fricked up the youngest one who basically became a wigger/druggie thug. oh and his 'new' family kids all have down syndrome (lol?) and new girlfriend is younger than I am. his youngest brother is trying to swindle their own mother out of a house because he's basically a 60yr old neet/incel who refuses to move out and knocked up some thai prostitute on holiday and has a kid he has never seen IRL, and the sister left the country because her ex-military psycho husband is a q-anon type. and I know what you're thinking, 'BASED'!!! but IRL he never stops talking about blacks and gays. he NEVER shuts up about them, it's exhausting. i've heard this a couple of times as well, i might be biased because i've cut contact with my mother (hoarder with other mental problems that she never gets help for and pretends to everybody that she's fine) but if i had to choose between cutting off a family member and maybe facing some blowback from other family members i would 100% choose that over staying in contact with a crazy family member just because THEY'RE FAMILY and everybody pretending everything is peachy
