Those are people who have a weird inclination to just go against the grain for the sake of going against it. Everything the group agrees upon must be some kind of scheme to them and so they latch onto ideas that agree with because they tend to start with "this is what 'they' don't want you to know" which hooks them in.

It's always been my opinion that Tarkin should have had Mas Amedda's role in the Prequels. That of Palpatine's right-hand man in the Senate and a central conspirator in bringing down the Republic. Hence why he holds such authority that even Darth Vader, a man who could literally kill him without laying a hand on him, must obey.

Why did he say it like that though? What was so disturbing about it? Stupid and callous, maybe, but disturbing? It's not like the Empire officially worshipped the Force, hell Sheev was keeping his Sith leanings on the down low. 90% of the Imperials had the same attitude as that guy, so he wasn't in any way "disturbing".

It really was disturbing. How can someone who was alive during the clone wars not believe in the force? There were Jedi acting as generals all over the galaxy!

          Anonymous

It's not like he didn't believe Force powers existed, he just didn't think it was comparable to the Death Star. Giving how 99% of the Jedi were taken out by goons with blasters he had a point.

            Anonymous

Exactly, it's not comparable to The Deathstar.
As depicted Force Powers pale in comparison to military might. This doesn't change until the EU introduces Battle Meditation and then they're just a force multiplier.

Think of using the Force like Catholics doing exorcisms: you know they do it, but you likely think its bullshit until you see it for yourself. A galaxy is an unfathomably big place, and at the time of even the prequels, there weren't enough Jedi left to fill a Starbucks. Most people would never encounter a Jedi.

Honestly it makes no sense why anyone part of the galactic community wouldn't know what the Force is let alone the Jedi seeing how their headquarters is also where the Senate is. There are multiple races part of the Republic that just naturally use the Force without training. Plo Koon's people had their own Force user group that were used to help predict the random weather on their planet long before they met the Republic and Jedi. The fact that most alien races could use the Force before the Jedi and Sith came into contact with them shows it makes no sense.

          Anonymous

The movies don't really talk about this, but the Empire went on an extreme Orwellian censorship campaign towards anything mentioning the force, so as to prevent the rise of more Jedi. By the time A New Hope happened, there was at least 2 full generations that had grown up only hearing "the force" mentioned as whispered forbidden fairytales, with a whole society built to discourage even thinking about it, lest you be North Korea'd

No it isn't. A generation can be between 15-20 years. Baby Boomers range from 1946-1964.

            Anonymous

Only 1 generation that being Luke and Leia's would have grown up only knowing the empire. Everyone else would have clear memories of the Force and Jedi. Again, you have entire races with natural Force abilities. The Empire didn't wipe them all out in one go.

This would've been a fine excuse if the timeframe wasn't so small and the universe wasn't so big. The outer rim specifically is filled with various governments and lawless worlds. Han Solo would've been alive before Order 66 and his stomping grounds are at the fringe of the Empire's influence. There's no excuse whatsoever for him being ignorant of the existence of magic.

              Anonymous

To add onto this, there are Aliens who are specifically resistant to "old jedi mind tricks" and it is a feature of their species. This shit is known. No totalitarian censorship campaign could delete this knowledge from the galaxy.

              >Han Solo would've been alive before Order 66 and his stomping grounds are at the fringe of the Empire's influence
Was he originally born in the outer rim cause he's from Corellia which is in the Core Systems and one of the earliest members of the Republic/Empire.

                Anonymous

He was born in Corellia but by the time of ANH it is shown that he is an experienced smuggler for the Hutts. Hutts live for hundreds of years, by the way. Which isn't all too uncommon for many species in the galaxy. So any of you guys discussing how many generations it takes for Imperial censorship campaigns to scrub knowledge of Jedi are reaching pretty hard.

Han Solo was around ten when the Great Jedi Purge took place, so his denial of The Force may have been just his attempting to rationalize what he had seen. He was a mere child and a civilian at the time, he would have had no knowledge of Palpatine's machinations, his corruption of Anakin Skywalker, and Order 66. All he saw was a bunch of guys with laser swords being wiped out by clone troopers within a matter of hours.

              Anonymous

That actually works really well with his belief that a blaster is more effective than a lightsaber. As a kid he saw lightsaber wielding wizards all get smoked by guys with blasters

                Anonymous

Bingo, and it also explains why Admiral Motti, who would have been in his late-teens/early-20s during the Clone Wars, is also dismissive of that "ancient religion". It was his rationalizing how the Jedi were so effortlessly exterminated in a matter of hours. Order 66 did more than merely physically destroy the Jedi, it stripped away their facade as supermen. After that, they were just men and their power was little more than a gimmick.

I was just joking around about another movie I like. Star Wars is fricking stupid. The idea that Jedi and the force are forgotten over the course of 20 years when the empire isn't the only government in the galaxy and alien species that live for hundreds of years are common is so monumentally moronic that you are better off trying to retcon everything about the universe prior to ANH than to struggle to pass those adhoc logs of shit.

its supposed to show the power of propaganda. even though it was in people's lifetimes, the erosion of those memories by killing the jedi and everyone they ever talked to does wonders for the mass memory of an intergalactic society.

they're actually very quick to read as long as it's a purely sequential read, what they suck at is random reading (IE, need a few bytes from one part of the tape then a few bytes from another completely different part of the tape)

Any company or government that needs to store massive amounts of documents or other records long term for legal reasons
            >Don't they degrade over time?
Yeah, but copying a tape's contents to a fresh tape is a purely sequential operation and can be done quickly and easily, and the documents stored by organizations rarely need to be kept for so long that tape decay becomes a factor

This meeting is all because Vader fricked up and did not get the info so he's pissed that Vader is sitting in on their meeting to fix his failure like nothing happened. Also he seems to just generally not like the guy and his edgemaster routine and vaguely defined actual rank within the empire. They answer to Tarkin not Vader so technically hes most likely his boss until Vader asks him if he feels in charge. lol

I like how Vader seems like a total outcast within the Empire. None of the officers around him like him or even really take him seriously, they think he's a fricking weird creep and they clearly don't like him. Most just aren't moronic enough to frick with him.

Quite an ingenious move on Palpatine's part. Anakin serves as his enforcer, but is emotionally crippled to the point where he's unable to build the interpersonal relationships with his subordinates that would allow him to actually overthrow Palpatine.

No, but Palpatine did make the choice to save Anakin instead of just leaving him to die on Mustafar. Anakin could no longer be his successor, but he could still be of use as the Empire's muscle. Strong enough to keep everyone else in line, weak enough so that he could never oppose him.

I might be wrong but in the OT in the eyes of the imperials Vader was just a guy who came out of nowhere as the emperors right hand man whose only reputation was killing Jedi.

The guy was a military man who didn't want to take orders from some monk. Like the Tsar Generals didn't give a frick about what Rasputin said.

The criticism doesn't even make sense. The data types weren't stolen from Vader. They were stolen from an Imperial base with Tarkin and Kreenic present, not Vader. Vader didn't escape. He was about to kill Luke but suffered heavy damage from the Falcon doing a sneak attack which caused his ship to spin out of control. It's amazing he didn't get captured by the Rebellion since he was in the system where their home base was.

he's trying to say that before CGI ruined everything, vader had to concentrate and the force couldn't help him kill an army if it was on top of him because it was made by real artists instead of the capeshit that's rotted everyone else's brains. for the sake of the story vader wasn't all that powerful in the force as of ESB, only capable of slowly throwing around a couple boxes. even his swordfighting skills in the suit are slow and cumbersome. he's dull because he hasn't been fighting jedi for like 20 years.

I used to understand trying to cover for inconsistencies in George's shitty writing back when Star Wars had some merit left but at this point it is just coping for the benefit of a company that is actively against your interests and a franchise that is afflicted with rot.

      Screw George.
He got buttblasted over TESB and went full consoomer mode with the Ewoks.
Then he went back and retroactively made the movies worse with The 'Special' Editions.
Then, after doing nothing for years, he came out with god awful prequel films with terrible dialogue, acting, baby Darth Vader, poop jokes, and mid 90's powerpoint tier cutaways.

The Thrawn Trilogy is overrated, but Zahn's hint at The Clone Wars potentially being an enemy using clones specifically to interfere with Jedi force powers is far more interesting than anything Lucas did in the prequels.
