It sucks if it's expected to be the same character. But if different versions of a given character already exist then I don't care. It's a continuity issue above all else.
I feel like that outfit doesn't suit a dark complexion. She should go for either colder tones or more vibrant colours, or both.
He looks like a brownie or fudge
He's far too busy being delicious!
At least she was cute in the live action
Now do it the other way
CANCELLED
It stinks.
I mean, it's cool when they're hot.
The majority of the people don't seem to complain about black Catwoman or that hispanic looking Lois Lane.
Madre mia!
I am getting sick of Black Catwoman because it is overdone in adaptations. Eartha Kitt was kino and Halle Berry was hot, but now she's black in practically everything outside of comics. Superhero Girls, The Batman, Harley Quinn, even Batwheels and Lego Batman.
Aren't most of those just Eartha Kitt tributes? The DCSHG one definitely was.
When it is the majority of adaptations, it ceases being a tribute and just becomes the norm. It's why so many supergays are so butthurt over all the evil Superman expies.
There has never in the history of fiction been a race swap that wasn't completely moronic. Hell even when fricking white people were playing different races in the beginning of cinema they tried to make themselves look like the race they were supposed to be which is unironically more respectful than whatever the frick Hollywood is doing now.
As another anon pointed out nobody complains about Eartha Kitt. Shrieking morons may be eternal but the specific things they shriek about are of the moment.
Eartha was ugly
Getting Eartha wasn't a political statement, it was getting this celeb on the show
> Producer Bill Dozier picked Eartha Kitt to play the new Catwoman. “We felt it was a very provocative idea,” producer Charles B. Fitzsimons said. “She was a cat woman before we ever cast her as Catwoman. She had a cat-like style. Her eyes were cat-like and her singing was like a meow. This came as a wonderful off-beat idea to do it with a black woman.”
It was 1960s America dumbass. You don’t just cast a black person cause they’re really popular
>nobody complains about Eartha Kitt.
Probably because the Adam Wedt Batman fricking sucks.
You poor fool.
>Minstrel shows were ackshually more respectful
Most moronic post in /co
Congratulations
He was obviously referring to Othello, classy blackface.
Yes, representing a race is better than erasing them.
So Cinemaphile can’t complain about Finn or Simon anymore. No more whining about white guys being villains or incels because representation iz better than erasure
Those criticisms literally have nothing to do with racial representation dip shit.
Cause you were too lazy to read the context, dumbfrick
I don't know. I think Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin was not only not completely moronic, it was actually good and worked. I feel like it was also pretty well accepted.
I dont really care about being white but it is kind of fricked up youre allowed to be races swapped from white to X but its insultingly offensive when its X to white. If that double standard didnt exist Id probably not care.
They can be fun if done right and for coomer reasons only.
I hate them, not because I'm a massive racist.
But because companies know that creating original minority characters won't sell, so they raceswap preexisting characters to make them minorities.
Just make new characters. "We need the brand recognition even if everything is changed!" is dishonest skinwalker shit. If it's super hero stuff where it's a different person but the same super identity, that's fine, but when it's the same character, it's just being dishonest/lazy.
I'm racist.
Raceswaps are fun design exercises but tedious marketing excercises.
Sephiroth and Barret both look cool
Cloud looks marginally less stupid.
>le anime hair is bad
Reddit opinion.
"Le" is a reddit meme though
Tifa and Sephiroth are massive upgrades.
>tedious marketing excercises
Pretty much my biggest issue with woke stuff. I support diversity, but the marketing will always make it obnoxious.
>Black Sephiroth
>White dreads
Black characters with white hair almost always looks good, it’s mostly in anime though if memory serves. Might be because as a rule of thumb black works well with accents and and contrasting colors and in the case of manga dark tones on dark tones would likely make things harder to distinguish.
Except for cloud those are all pretty par with their originals, a fair alternative
Barret, though, is definitely made worse personality wise by stepping away from the angry black guy trope because who he is plays off the idea, and its subversion, so much.
Nikolas Drapey-Ivey is great.
honestly dont mind these at all
They’re shit
It's offensive when it's political (99%). It's ok when it's not (Eartha Kitt taking over Catwoman. Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury. Etc.).
Unless its a separate character, it sucks.
Hate em, unless they're good, then I like em.
I don't care. Reboots/remakes will always be shit so even without the raceswapping it would still suck
Unless you swap everyone's race becasue of the setting or a clear reference, it's just moronic
If race wasn't relevant to the character to begin with and isn't relevant to the reimagined one, then it's no different from changing their hair colour. Happens all the time in theatre, where unless it's Othello or something you just want the best actor for the part.
If you're swapping a character's race to create some kind of racial statement or character motive, then obviously it had better be a good one. If your big statement is that we're all the same or look how colourblind we are, that's some mixed messaging to say the least.
>no different from changing their hair colour
Foolish of you to assume I don't absolutely fricking hate it when they fail to portray the character with something as simple as the color of their hair
>Durr durr durr it duznt matter!
Every single gaslighting homosexual that tries this line needs to be shot to death in front of their parents.
No.
We know it matters to you subhuman cultists, because you b***h about "muh diversity" and then go on to raceswap in the first place.
Learn to read, and maybe some anger management techniques.
I very much care about a character having accurate hair in adaptations though. I even get miffed when the eye color is wrong.
Its been happening so long I legit feel nothing anymore. Black Ariel to me might as well have just been the original german redhead and the movie wouldve still been shit.
OP you already know what they're gonna say...
Only approved raceswap was Nick Fury prove me wrong
Michael Clarke Duncan Kingpin.
Meh, don't care. Just can't stand hypocrites who do this and whine when it goes Black ----> White.
I hate. No watter what race is changes I fricking hate it
>t. black man
9 times outta 10 the race of the character isn’t important to their personality so I don’t care
The 1 outta 10 is disastrous tho
they're cringe
I hate the double standards surrounding it.
Either none of it's okay, or all of it's okay.
The race isn't the problem with that Velma.
disgusted
>LOOK CHARACTER IS NON-WHITE NOW LOOK HOW PROGRESSIVE WE ARE BUY OUR SHIT OR YOUR RACEIST
Sucks monkey dick
