Wu Tang mentioned it and that's what matters

Eh, I love Voltron/Golion's design but all of the series have issues although I haven't seen Voltron Force.

I will always hold a certain amount of nostalgia for it as it made my childhood. But netflix raped it hard. And honestly it probably wasn't super great to start with.

Not a popular opinion but I liked Vehicle Voltron more. Note the Arus and Doom are just a proxy war between the Alliance and the Drules. Vehicle Voltron is more like Star Trek which is I like.

Only got away with it's Americanization because Go-Lion was less popular than Macross.

Vehicle voltron got way too much shit.

    I only saw Legendary Defenders.
There's unironically some things and design I enjoyed and some characters are pretty good. But it's completely wasted by showrunners doing shit on the flies, giant retcons and the producer not liking mecha stuff.

It's a 3/10 show but this pisses me off because I could still see some potential with it.
    Pidge best girl.

I don't think World Events even understands how Voltron became successful in the first place, tbhf.

Popularity can be a hard and confusing thing to track and predict. Sometimes it really is just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Watched it as a kid when boomerang did reruns in the 2000s and my dad gave me his old voltrons toys to play with, seen both reboots and I remember liking dreamworks but I only watched like half of season 1.
Was cool playing SRW W and seeing them again and finding out that only two members of the team are color coordinated to their respective lions was pretty funny

It got my mom into Mecha (not that much into it nowadays, though) and eventually me because she would insist in getting robot toys for me when I was a kid due to that.
Thank you, GoLion; It's because of you that I shitpost on /m/

Tranzor was my first thing, but I could mash toys together in time with the show for Voltron, even if I had to learn how to make the UHF antenna work to get the signal from Miami

wep didn't just dub golion, they created a brand new universe using that footage. Sort of like power rangers but without having the benefit of having their own footage. They are ambitious and have a plan to adapt two other shows into the same niverse like say Robotech but done better. Vehicle Voltron is a failure so they outright buy golion from Toei and request a new season. This new season canonizes the Lion Voltron dub as its own thing instead of an inaccurate adaptation of Golion, it really is its own thing. To further strengthen the ties between vehicle voltron & lion voltron wep makes their own crossover movie.
we get a sequel series in the 90s that continues the story this time all american made with new cool dino mecha. and then in the 2000s we get another sequel series further continuing the story of the original.
legendary defender is a reboot but sadly it felt ashamed of being voltron and didn't pull anything from the history of the show and there was plenty.
I'd say voltron earned the legacy it has and outdid golion.

iirc they commissioned a couple of dozen eps worth of Lion Team from the same lolROK teams that did much of the shitwork for Golion?

also iirc the Golion purchase wasn't until early-mid 00s or so when WEP started trying to sell a "voltron" movie and people started asking exactly what they were buying with "voltron" movie rights

WEP created an entirely original America only season of Lion Force and a crossover TV movie all in English, never having seen the light of day in Japan.

No real opinion, but GoLion is a cool design so I guess I'm glad Voltron existing means it gets merchandise like the Lego kit.
Even if Legendary Defender's existence was a complete mistake, they're doing more with GoLion/Voltron than Harmony Gold does with Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada as Robotech so I'll give them that.

Legendary Defender had so much potential, a full series run ordered from the beginning, a high budget, great animation, great designs. But instead of Voltron we got this weird sci-fi story that had nothing to do with voltron. There were so many things they could've done with the lore and they ignored it for generic space adventures. It's really as if the writers just used the budget for a voltron cartoon to make their original creations into a show. I don't blame tumblr shippers, the show was already not voltron from the beginning.

I think the robot is gay and ugly, but the concept is good.

    3..2...1...

"you fricking moron! no culture! normalgay! go back to whatever shit hole you come from."

I'm sorry... the robot is ugly.

    >Hurr, there's a doctor on another planet
    >Good thing, Nanny was hit with a stun gun
    >Good thing, the grunts are robots
I always knew Reagan USA coddled morons but even I knew this shit was moronic when my classmate showed this to me. His older brother recorded Voltron when it aired on Cartoon Network and it's only saving grace was that Peter Cullen narrated the series.

Anon, Robotech didn't hide the fact that people died.
