All you need is a girl, a camera, a niche to fill and some editing software. Upload clips to free sites and siphon users onto your website where they have to pay for access to the full content. Yes, millions of morons still pay for porn

What do you want to do? If directing it's not really like making short films where you can find people to act or crew for free, you will need to pay people, especially the actors.

I’d like to direct. What sort of money will I need to produce a few scenes?

Do you have any experience in directing? Or even filmmaking? Do you own or have access to equipment?

I’ve worked in film but never actually directed. I’m actually looking for a way I can cover the costs of new equipment and financing actual short films. I figure if I can prove I’ve made income from the porn then I can deduct the cost of the equipment on taxes and ideally make enough profit to finance future projects.

Interesting plan. Your main expense will be the women you hire. If you expect to use well known names you'll probably have to fork out $1500+ an hour for them. And I'd probably pay a guy to hold a boom mic so you can get decent sound too. If you expect to host these on your own site you'll need at least five or more scenes available when you launch otherwise no one's going to subscribe to it. There's a chance no one will regardless. There's a fair bit of risk there because you're going to need a good chunk of capital to get started although if you're just planning to sell scenes to sites I guess you wouldn't have to worry about that. I have no idea what sites pay for completed scenes though. Probably not as much as they used to.

you can get decent sound from ambient mics these days

You can hire a literal prostitute for $200 or you can hire a pornstar for more. There is no set of rules for you to follow. Just use your head and set aside a few hundred dollars to consult a lawyer before you begin so you can avoid legal pitfalls

Legal expenses aren’t something I considered but definitely something to consider.

You need ironclad contracts and should ideally set up new LLCs for each production like regular movie studios do every time they produce a new movie. This is for protection of your main company. If something goes wrong and you end up getting sued into the ground then only that specific LLC goes bust instead of your whole company. This is only to protect you from civil disputes like lawsuits. If you go out there and break laws, you'll still go to jail. Talk to a lawyer before you start producing

Like $800 - $1500 for the entire day of shooting. I didn’t think they were paid by the hour unless they were escorting. Are you sure they are? That basically kills any notion of profit. Breaking even and covering equipment costs would probably be the best I could aim for and if that’s the case I would just do one scene, sell it and then write off my gear costs on tax.

You're outdated. No one other than legacy players do it this way anymore. Onlyfans is the current way to make money from porn. As a male, you essentially can only come in as a pimp by providing newcomers with equipment and protection.

Hire a makeup artist, a fluffer, and fashion expert. Your actors needs to look good on camera. And try to make it look like they have fun.

He's right about being able to use your phone, you can get a couple lens clip-ons for ~30 bucks each and some inexpensive LED lights (lighting is v. important, read up for free on three-point lighting). Would recommend a decent mic for sound. You can use Model Mayhem to find people in your area and filter by what they're willing to do on camera.

Do not lie to or deceive the cast at all about the film and your plans for what they will do on camera. That's how the GDP crew got rekt in court. It has happened to other porn producers as well. Be very explicit about how you are making porn and if a girl gets cold feet let her back out instead of pressuring her to go through. If you talk her into making porn when she was unsure about it then regrets it guess what, you'll be convicted of rape/accessory to rape.

You wanna know the real trick to succeeding in 2024? You need short viral content. Try this: TikTok style short vids where the "actress" performs a neat trick at the end, like solving a rubiks cube or teaching you how to fold an origami crane from kleenex. Now you only need like 10 seconds of actual sex footage

I read through your posts in the thread OP, you're at least 20 years too late to this. The best porn nowadays is shot by 2 people in a bedroom, on an iPhone held by a iPhone stand. No lights, no directors, no microphones, no 3-5 angles, no producers, no distributors. Just an iPhone, a computer, and connection to the internet.

This right here. No idea why OP is overcomplicating something that is so simple. It's like wanting to make a series about traveling and insisting on hiring a crew of 10 people to follow you around when like 95% of all successful travel content is just some dude walking around by himself with a gopro camera

Releasing the “amateur” porn through a production company gets him the same tax benefits as releasing professionally produced porn though. I think he’s just a film autist who thinks the regular rules of film production apply to porn when modern audiences crave realism

As long as the footage is the property of his company and he’s making taxable income from the footage, yes. If you get an ex-girlfriend to sign a contract which states that one of your homemade sex videos is to be sold to your company for $1k and you proceed to make $100k of taxable income from that footage, then you are eligible for all the same benefits as ordinary production companies

For being behind the camera and directing others, it’s more difficult now because everyone is their own boss with things like OnlyFans and such. Production value of any kind under the guidance of a company or studio is really like unheard of these days. Those companies still exist but it’s harder to find talent now because of a severe lack of trust in both agencies and the companies that ultimately hire the talent.

My honest advice is either get a job at one of the “reputable” orgs and work your way up, or honestly consider making your own porn with hook ups and building a grassroots following that way.
