What really is a villain anyway?

Can't you define all villains like that? Just do a little more mental gymnastics.

      This is actually very apropos.

I forgot were I saw it now (probably the CICGC with Louis CK) but Seinfeld described how he believes learning to enjoy suffering is one of the keys to a happy life.

        >enjoy suffering
Enjoy it? Or accept it and be content with it. I think enjoying suffering can probably lead you down some dark paths. Hence, the theme of this movie.

in the hellbound heart it is stated that the greatest possible pleasure is a momentary break from unimmaginable pain. Frank gets this, and the centobites are never actually tricked... they are above that. It is a brief novel, and Barker abandons most of the actual good stuff in the basic story.

Thats the point you moron, thats what made the Cenobites interesting before all the shitty sequels and fanfiction and shit. It was interesting that 99.9% of humanity are immediately repulsed by them, but the 0.01% of sensory lunatics who just want “more” at any price see them as heroes or mentors.
It was 10x cooler than “he’s zombie who le kills people when they frick” a la Jason. And then it was all turned into capeshit.

Hellraiser sequels shouldnt have had that gay blue hell, it should have shown us a glimpse of the macabre world of superhuman torture and pain resilience. Like those freaky hallucinations in Event Horizon’s engine room.

okay so you agree with the OP, dumbass.
      Pinhead isn't a villain.

In the first two films, none of the cenobites are villains, they were never intended to be. They're conduits for human depravity and desire.

If humans didn't desire what hell offered they would do nothing. They only arrive when the box is opened.

He really wasn't the Villain in the first one at least and that one is the only one that counts

Nah, 2 is important as well

If I remember correctly don’t the cenobites try and kill the lead? Even though she’s meant to be innocent but is just dragged into the whole mess? Or is there some implication I missed/forgot?

            >If I remember correctly don’t the cenobites try and kill the lead?
She opened the box, they only were willing to spare her in exchange for Frank, because his escape was a big fricking problem. In the second film, they spare the mute girl because she was mentally vacant, and they recognized Chanard's desires as the source.

Be honest, Anon. If you had a magic spell book that summons Angelique from hell for a brutal S&M session, how long before you read it?

That's correct. He may have been an antagonist, but he wasn't a villain.
He just wanted to explore human experience.

The first two are the only good ones. Everything after goes way off base from the lore established in the first two, and not to mention most are direct-to-video and it shows.

As I recall, one of the sequels was filmed in literally a month in order to keep the rights to the series.

Hellraiser 2 is an acceptable sequel that's not as good as the first. TCM The Next Generation is an abomination.
