It's kind of a shame, too, because in actuality I really really enjoy the concept of a Borderlands style co-op Suicide Squad looter shooter... just not whatever Live Service dogshit KTJL is. I mean, there are TONS of fricking villains that have been on the squad, and they go for the fricking Movie Tie-In Brigade™ in the most uncreative way possible. We could have had Ratcatcher, Copperhead, Ragdoll, KGBeast... all with signature moves and custom skill trees, different strengths and weaknesses, different roles.
Instead we have Black Deadshot who plays exactly the same was Harley Quinn does (GUNS GUNS GUNS) with the only difference that he has a fricking jetpack instead of a grappling hook. Rocksteady just didn't give enough of a shit to put the effort in.

Suicide Squad was supposed to release... I think around Summer of 2023? But after initial reveal and gameplay footage was shown and it looked rather bland, they put it on hold to do more polishing work.
At the same time this was happening MK1 was nearing its polishing stage and probably on track for a late 2023 or early 2024 release date. When SS got pushed back WB Games forced the MK1 devs to push the game put early, where it lacked a decent number of casual-focused side content when compared to prior MK titles.
Credit to Netherrealm Studios for releasing the game in a pretty functional state, but it clearly needed another 3-4 months for that side content that was left on the cutting room floor.

I'm not usually one to cry "SHILL", but there's been a pretty distinct artificial push online for this game in the run-up to its launch.
When it was first revealed way back when in one of Sony's state of plays, I think most people just thought it looked disappointingly mediocre and below Rocksteady's usual standard. There weren't very many who were excited by the gameplay reveal, or the fact that it was going to be another GaaS looter shooter where characters like Captain Boomerang and King Shark just use guns, or that it was centred around the Suicide Squad (obviously in an attempt to tie-in with the movies) fighting Superman-but-evil when fans were expecting/hoping Rocksteady to do a proper Superman or Batman Beyond game.
You had the delays after that, which made most people forget about the game, but then it was the leaks last year which made people really turn on it once they found out how shitty this story was going to be on top of everything else. And yet, suddenly, in the last month or so, you get this flood of posts and comments online talking about how they're looking forward to this game because "Rocksteady's never let me down" and how any media outlet criticising it or reporting on the numerous launch issues is obviously biased/wrong/has a vendetta/etc etc.

They used Dini in the first two games. About 3 years ago, they removed Rockstars founders and most of the comic fans, and decided to outsource writing to "cultural sensitivity" experts.
It's a game that quotes villains, of course they're going to bitterly view Batman as an aggressor. The Batman is even about using his power and wealth for the better.

Actually if memory serves I believe the connection in this universe is John is the hero who put Lawton away. Deadshot is mad he got caught, and also mad at the idea of people thinking they had some long arching history.
