Person's gross. JLaw as they call it, is not hot or funny, but it feels as if they're trying to squeeze some memberberries out of guys who were too young when she got famous to know the difference between hot and "makes-me-horny-because-everything-makes-me-horny"
I will not be viewing the film.
I expect it will make back its budget. If it has a ~$40m budget, I expect it to do $100m-$200m at the box office.
It's certainly not going to light the industry on fire but it's alright. If the budget's higher than that though... it might struggle to make a profit

Oh no no no
Unsubstantiated report said $25m.
Even if it was that high, it wouldn't really explain the budget. In 2005, this film would've had a $20m total budget at max. Inflation hasn't increased costs to that extent.
It's fraud, not money-laundering.
The studio thinks this is how much films cost because it's what the producers tell them films cost. And the studio heads are all idiots and largely nepo hires.
The producers then take that money, take a generous fee for themselves, put a generous amount into catering/luxurious expenses for pre-production meetings, and then put the rest into paying for overpriced services provided by friends and families (think paying $200 for a prop that costs $5 in materials).
Then regardless of how well the film does, the producer's been paid and so have their friends and family and it's everyone else's fault (ie. marketing, consultants, actors, director) since they just did their job.
>support the comedy revival
I'd love a revival of genuinely good screwball comedies but most modern comedies look like complete dogshit both in terms of writing and visuals (not that every comedy needs to look like a Bergman movie, but compare the modern oversaturated slop the level of craft in Hawks, Sturges, Wilder etc.) that I have little interest in giving it a shot. Anything with Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, Melissa McCarthy and her gen of SNL alumni, Seth Rogen, etc. doesn't even register to me as something I would think about watching when I see them on the cinema listings. If there is a revival of worthwhile comedies, where is it?
>comedy revival
have you watched the trailer, friend? it's another one of those seth rogen esque improv fests where they replace sight gags and jokes with run on dialog about how a character mispronounced a word or some shit. and then the whole B story is her having serious conversations with her friends about class struggle and being a millenial or some stupid shallow pretentious attempt at "saying something" (because they don't know how to say anything through comedy they need to shoehorn their "message" some other way)
Now what? Now that the nude scene leaked? Newsflash, we already saw her breasts a decade ago and they look substantially worse now.

Why do movies like that cost so much to begin with? What's Jlaw's salary?

Supporting bad comedies might bring back good comedies
