How old do I have to be to admire this movie? I like the training camp part, but everything else makes me unbearably bored. Yes, the movie is well made and does a good job of showing the absurdity of war and combining comedy and seriousness, but I'm just not interested.
AN >>> FMJ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Platoon
Truth.
AN?
american ninja
Sounds fake. What's the real AN?
Ass Black person
Dumbass. What is it really?
I told you it's Ass Black person
It stands for
Do
Not into my pool
Assman.
I'm pretty sure it's ass Black person
It's Apocalypse Now jesus christ.
Oh ok I genuinely thought it was American Ninja
It's American Ninja.
jesus christ this entire thread is like a giant pleb magnet
I'm not gonna believe that you morons are actually interested in American Ninja
never said I was, I'm just answering your question on what the movie was since you're such an ignorant film novice.
Cool. Thanks for the nonanswer moron. Tell me an answer that doesnt include fricking americaqn ninja.
>tell me the name of the movie without telling you the name of the movie
some morons just can't be helped. I go out of my way to spoonfeed a dipshit dilettante and this is how I'm treated? fine, don't accept the correct answer. I don't fricking care.
You HAD a fricking recc? Good fricking job shilling it, you spent your whole time being annoying and stupid. yeah just frick off and die moron.
What is AN? are you making up a movie?
How did this post manage to cause such confusion?
Platoon is the least thought provoking one but more entertaining than FMJ
Kubrick is massively overrated and this movie is not good because of the second half. Your instincts are good.
I actually like many of Kubrick's movies, but not this one in the end.
Don't worry it has nothing to do with age; this film has been filtering plebs for decades now, particularly when they graduate from boot camp and enter Vietnam. The reason you were bored because the film is doing exactly what it's supposed to do when filtered through a plebeian's head.
I still haven't called the other half bad, but I'm just wondering why people can genuinely like her? It's just bad people doing bad things, but I knew before this movie that war was bad, denumanizing people was bad, etc. Their actions didn't make me horrified, just annoyed.
I think Kubrick may be too subtle for you. Have you tried watching the films of Michael Bay? I think he may be more your speed.
Okay. Probably other war movies like Paths of Glory, The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Come and See are dumb and straightforward enough for me to like, but not this one.
I said nothing about those other flicks. Those are perfectly fine flicks. I specifically said Kubrick is too advanced for the likes of you, evidenced by this thread. It's okay. Kubrick is known to befuddle the feeble-minded. You aren't the first, and you won't be the last. Your children, should you ever have any, will likely continue this pattern if they manage to ever get around to watching his films.
Stop calling me moronic and tell me specifically what I didn't understand and how the movie filtered me.
Maybe when you get a few more hairs on your balls you'll understand but I doubt it since I watched this film as wee lad in the 90s on cable and loved it even if I didn't understand the larger political discussions and ideas presented in the film, references to Jungian philosophy, or any of that stuff. All of that would become clearer to me as a I got older and more educated and learned more about the world. But even as a child and ignorant about war and death and politics, I still loved the film, and not just the highly engaging and entertaining boot camp sequences. Yet you, as a 21 year old zoomie, find this movie "unbearably boring". What even is there to say to someone when they find something boring? There is no valid response other than to shit your bad taste since taste in movies is subjective. Objectively speaking, however, you do indeed have bad in movies.
tl;dr you're a plebeian zoomzoom with bad taste in movies
>Stop calling him a moron and explain
>"ok"
>Bursts into massive wall of text still not talking about this supposedly hidden genius
So basically, you don't know
He probably thinks Jarhead is boring and uneventful as he is oblivious to the point.
What a fricking pretenious homosexual you are. I like Kubrick. My favorite Kubrick film is Barry Lyndon and my second one is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Full Metal Jacket is a shit movie, period.
>Full Metal Jacket is a shit movie, period.
You may not like it, but it's well-regarded by most people who consider themselves film fans. How many movies are revered, talked about, and still watched 35 years after their initial release? And I guarantee people will still be watching FMJ in 50 years.
Ad populum argument. Of course the most shallow and dumbed down films are the most popular. They are made to be enjoyed by plebs, whom are the majority.
lol u mad? you explode for no reason, just like Bay's movies.
It's not about age boy, you had to be in the shit
Why didn't he just make two movies?
I liked the later half where they're in the bombed up town and there's a sniper.
>How old do I have to be
Over 16
Unfortunately, I'm already 21. I can recognize the quality of the movie, "objectively" so to speak, but I just don't like it.
Age doesn't matter, you have to have patrician taste to admire Full Metal Jacket. If you can't, then you have to watch everything on this list until you do.
Cape shit and Adam sandler
Who’s the clown that made this
a film's quality and merit is derived by its execution, not by genre or actor. are you the op? goddamn you just keep exposing yourself as a turbo plebeian lmao
this list missed some
>godfather
>taxi driver
>scarface
>V for Vendetta
>ANH
>GOTG
>alot of that other shit
Ok I know this is a shitpost.
to admire this movie you have to not be a pussy, yes the movie is slow and it isnt supposed to make you feel energized, its a story with a message
Yep, the message is clear, but it's not enough. Apocalypse Now does it better in everything
Full Metal Jacket got it right first time. Apocalypse Now tried four different cuts and people still say the "making of" documentary is better.
>Full Metal Jacket got it right first time.
So did Apocalypse now.
>Apocalypse Now tried four different cuts
Those cuts weren't made because what came before it was bad or needed fixing.
>and people still say the "making of" documentary is better.
That's just bullshit.
I agree. Theatrical cut is best cut. The rest are just to sell more home video copies. Plebs fell for it.
>a film's quality and merit is derived by its execution, not by genre or actor. are you the op? goddamn you just keep exposing yourself as a turbo plebeian lmao
pussy boy ran out of arguments so he decides to post wojaks, fricking embarrassing
dude what are you doing lmfao
>He wojaked because he couldn't stand the truth
Your generation is shit. It's okay to feel this way. Nobody expects anything from you. Just consume, grow old, and die. That is what zoomies will be known for.
Don't pretend like you were any better at our age. You just didn't have social media giving every trash moron an audience of millions.
Whelp looks like I fell for the bait in the other thread.
The best 'Nam movie of all time is Jacob's Ladder. Fight me, gaygatrons.
Just a dog's shitty dream
Dog? What the literal frick are you talking about?
I like how combat doesn't take place in the jungle but in city ruins.
Maybe you should have some gameplay footage on the side to look at to keep you from getting bored or maybe you should add the vine boom affect to play every few seconds.
Watch boot camp and then the ME SO HORNY bit and you've seen the best parts of the film. The rest is akin to anime filler.
Are you a woman? Jk the answer is of course you are.
For me, Full Metal Jacket is not an easy movie to enjoy/love but just to accept and appreciate. It is ugly, cold and distant like a battlefield you read in the history book. The second half, albeit being meticulously crafted and technically spellbinding, falls a bit short in terms of narrative, shapelessly disjointed and apparently uncertain for which direction to take - This felt more like a jokery act, with sporadic aloofness in characters in battling hit/miss motions, which is far unexpected from what we have been promised earlier on. Few philosophical musings hit the spot; military mentality is tested against one’s own limitation in a biting moral revelation, with the flimsy duality of mankind shown
He's saying the framus intersects with ramistan approximately at the paternoster
You have to not be an aloof reductionist zoomer piece of shit and at least try to be immersed.
I'll happily immerse myself in the world if it's Cameron's Avatar. I also like some of the war movies I listed in the thread, but this movie is very cold to me. Its absurdism and lack of likable characters takes me out of the experience.
>I'll happily immerse myself in the world if it's Cameron's Avatar
b8
They had bad memories from Omaha beach
why didn't americans just do this instead of fighting over some hills?
Cinemaphile be like
Cultural Marxist movie from 1987:

Cultural Marxist movie from 2023:

I don't think the act in Vietnam is all that good either
I prefer the second half
