How should time pass in comics?

And by this I mean “forever comics” like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, ect. For me, I’d like it if 3 real-world years equaled 1 year in comic-world.

Sure, but since companies like a shared universe that might get messy.

Nobody wants a 50-something year old Batman.

I’m not sure you’re right about that but this is about how you think time SHOULD work in comics, not what you think won’t work.

I appreciate the bump, though. Thanks.

I'd argue that Batman makes sense as someone in their mid 40s-early 50s. It would justify the amount of sidekicks he has.

      DKR has a fifty-something Batman.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Seems like an older Batman has worked well in the past, not just in DKR but in Batman Beyond. And when you get into characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, or Thor, aging ceases to mean much—hell, those characters are generally portrayed as stronger the older they get.

I've never gotten this sentiment. A 50 year old is someone like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise 10 years ago these days. It's not like 60 or even 40 years ago where an actor's glory days were over by their mid-40s.

Indeed. People still like the JSA and even though their aging has slowed they’re still drawn to look older. Aren’t they all over 100 now?

What would that approach be in regards to how time passes? Give a pitch if you have one, it sounds like you have an idea.

You're moronic if you think fictional characters should age.

The thread is about how you think time should pass in comics. If it doesn’t interest you then you have no obligation to talk about it.

      Appreciate the bump, though.

Time should pass but only characters who need to age should age.

      Batman should be around 40.

How would you determine which characters should be aged?

Happens to all of us. I hate the fact that I’m 38 and now older than Batman, but every fan has to go through that.

Do people want Dick Grayson to be a teenage Robin forever or do they like that he got older and became Nightwing?

1 year every 8 years or so, I suppose. Any number of holiday specials, though.

That could work, as long as you don’t mention specific dates.

They might be too fast, given how much comics are decompressed. I’d go with 3-5 comic years for 1 real-world year.

I say take whatever decades old the oldest character is, divide that by 10 and however much that is equals to one year in canon

However X-Men has been doing stuff is the way time should move.

How are they doing things? I haven’t read the X-Men in more than a decade.

Nta but the X-Men have weirdly aged more then the usual Marvel characters. Like the New Mutants are all now all in their early 20's now. Even most of Gen X outside of Jubilee are at least 21.

That’s interesting. Has that affected the ages of the other Marvel characters not directly tied to the X-Men?

    Real time, Dredd style.
