Mary Jane looked fine in the first game so any sort of conspiracy theory doesn't work. They just fricked up the face model and presumably doubled down at every point instead of getting a new model (you know, like they did for peter)

They have no business making the love interest of the titular character look like some old b***h when she's supposed to be a really hot twenty-something. Mary Jane should 8-figure Instagram followers levels of attraction. She is an absolute gorgeous stunner and attracts positive attention. She's the kind of woman whose personality matches how vivacious and beautiful she is. Inside and out, she'd improve any man's life which is why she's meant to be a trophy.
Ultimately, the love interest of your protagonist has to be the kind of person your target audience/demographic or just YOURSELF would actually want in a romantic partner. The ideal for EVERYONE is to have someone who is loyal, devoted, beautiful, honest [rest of positive personality traits here] whom you go on to create and raise a family with. If your love interest doesn't invoke that interest from your fanbase then you have to redesign/rewrite/present them differently. No one would choose Insomniac's Mary Jane over the established canon that Mary Jane is a dropdead bombshell model. And if she ISN'T a model then she's working in position that's Hollywood-adjacent in order to cash in on her having a tie to the villain Mysterio. And even if she wasn't a model Mary Jane would still stand out in a crowd and dress the part because a girl with her attributes isn't going to not be noticed. Because that's the fantasy she's supposed to represent. This version absolutely fails Mary Jane on that level. It even fails Mary Jane as a character because she transform into Scream and then does nothing but shit on Peter. The game will MAKE SCREAM KITE AROUND THE ARENA AND AVOID DIRECT COMBAT just so you can sit through the lions share of her criticism and be fricking miserable. And all because Mary Jane couldn't handle being in a position working under a man who Peter had to tank for like 10 years. She called it quits after like 2 weeks and somehow its Peter's fault.

So they make a fricking refridgerator fall and pin Peter Parker as if with his proportion spider-strength he couldn't have launched the fricking thing through the kitchen ceiling with just a little effort. Peter pulls back from killing people all of the time. He's demonstrated incredible feats of physical strength and durability. Downplaying Peter for "woman in fridges!" criticism--which isn't even valid and thus should be ignored--by having him unable to get one off of him as his #1 love interest is being potentially murdered by Venom is moronic.
Mary Jane having the reaction time to to do something and Peter being too flatfooted to respond even as a monstrous threat is in front of him is fricking STUPID. Making Peter Parker look dumb and ineffective makes the people who like him and immerse themselves into him feel dumb and ineffective. Weak writers and passionless activists whose shouldn't be anywhere near significant pop culture icons. This game sold off of the strength of Venom alone. The third game is going to fricking fail spectacularly as a result of Insomniac continuing to place Girl Power on a pedestal in Male Power Fantasy. God, that Yuri fight went on for way too fricking long. Like Peter wouldn't be able to yank the sickle out of Yuri's hands or web her to a fricking wall and go on about his day.
