That sucks, Chaos is a cool villain. The plot to SA2 is extremely moronic, I don't see how even taking bits and pieces of it could make it interesting. It actually might would work if they made Shadow be the one collecting the Chaos Emeralds for Eggman, then they do a tag team on him in the end. I still won't watch it though

Sonic 1 mainly did its own thing, leaning heavily into the original game's Americanized canon of Sonic being from another planet.
Sonic 2 (the movie) ran with that while combining the plots of Sonic 2 (the game) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
And Sonic 3 (the movie) is skipping straight to SA2.

Not only will it be a mess, but it'll be expensive. Sonic 2 was budget enough. If they keep Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, then add Shadow, that's four characters running around as it is

Best to hope for that Paramount does would be to just carbon copy Rouge from Sonic Prime. Not because it was a good version of her, but because it was good enough to get past all the checkmarks in place that would have prevented her from doing anything, or looking female at all. Low expectations are required when dealing with the west
There'll be a scene where Tails has a chaos emerald and Rouge drags him with her into an empty wardrobe, followed by 10 minutes of his screams of youthful confusion and terror then ending when it suddenly goes silent and he flops out comically onto the floor covered in lipstick marks while Rouge walk off with his emerald
