ME2 was a Michael Bay dumbed-down wannabe normie blockbuster. That anon is right, ME1 is the only good, honest to god space opera game, the last Bioware game along with DAO before it got swallowed by EA. ME2 was where everything started going downhill. ME3 was just an EA game, Bioware was dead by then.

Frick off, the Genophage arc was the only good part.
Rannoch was painfully moronic, cerberus gate crashed every fricking plot line, the plot is fricked by the Mars archive and it utterly obliterates anything interesting about the setting. The ending isn’t even the worst part of the writing compared to the fricking crucible
The gunplay and power mechanics were better than 2, but that’s about it.

          >each race working on parts of it despite not speaking a common language or knowing what it even does
          It’s painfully moronic.
The prothean researchers surviving was treated as an absolute miracle that only happened due to sheer probability. The crucible is a deus ex machina that was shoved in because 2 did jack shit to advance the plot

My headcanon is that the Reapers, instead of going to darkspace, actually go purge other galaxies once they're done. Because that means there are many Citadels across the universe that the Reapers use to travel to, the knowledge of using the Citadel to wipe them out can be created by a race outside of the Milky Way. I like to think that one of these extinct races (like a million years ago) from another galaxy sent probes all across the universe with the information on how to use the Citadel as a weapon. The Prothean's version of Cerberus found one of these probes and attempted to hold the galaxy hostage just as the Reapers were invading.

I didn't care for the Crucible either, it was pretty moronic, but realistically how else were they gonna defeat the Reapers without a deus ex machina of some kind? The whole galactic alliance or whatever fleet nearly got wiped out by literally just 1 Reaper and its Geth goons in the first game and there were untold countless Reapers in the apocalypse fleet coming after them at the end. Their entire intergalactic society was completely at the mercy of the Reapers since they controlled the mass relays as well. Without them having some kind of equally contrived "I bypassed the compressor!" moment where the good guys take control over the mass relays and I don't know, use them to launch all the Reapers back into dark space I don't see how they could have ever won without a deus ex machina.

          Anonymous

          >not him

Part of the issue is they already had a half a dozen other deus ex machinas set up throughout the series that could have given them an edge in the conflict, they didn't need to rely on a brand new plot device instead of using stuff they had already seeded into the story.

Ironically, ME3 might be the best of the bunch.
ME1 has a ridiculous amount of false player choice. In many conversations, all the available dialogue options play the exact same lines. The player choices in dialogue are purely an illusion. The characters are fine, but pretty shallow and mostly exist for exposition. Combat is okay. It works well as the first entry in a bigger story.
ME2 has better dialogue and characters, but it fails spectacularly at being part of a trilogy, and its main plot is very, very mediocre.
ME3 has the best combat. It streamlines dialogue to get rid of the fake dialogue "options." It has the best DLC. It's the only game in the trilogy that has interesting choices for the player (besides the Rachni Queen), like curing/protecting the Genophage and whether the Geth deserve to be treated like people. The controversial Reaper lore and such is the byproduct of ME2 completely forgetting to do its job.

Ending sucked, but overall, I agree. Best combat (Andromeda's is better) and overall the set pieces and missions were great. Companion could be better. Better than 1, but much worse than 2 (but hardly a fair comparison).

    >Wasn't the game ruined already?
The first two games were pretty good. The third game ruined things by making your choices from the first two games meaningless. The choices thing was a major selling point, they were all suppose to culminate in the end. The end of the third game sealed it by having the three endings amount to choosing between 3 colors with a single different line of text. Then the fourth game wasn't even made by the original studio and was a bug filled piece of shit.

We'll be golden as long as they make the show somehow based off the first two games. But more than likely they'll frick it up.

    >Wasn't the game ruined already?

No, because if people actually look back at the original trilogy:

    >ME 1 - Starts really well but drops off towards the end.
    >ME 2 - Awesome Game that starts weaker than 1 but picks itself up at the halfway point to end strong.
    >ME 3 - Legit 95% Incredible Game from the start ruined only by the shitty cop out ending which the DLC came along too late to fix.

The real problem with 3 is that regardless of what ending you pick your choices from 1+2 never mattered - which was a real downer because you are consistently led to believe they do.

Andromeda ruined ME because it fricked up being a Midqeul to the core games and basically made EA's executives flaccid about any further ME games.

    https://i.imgur.com/reLp1Xd.png

    How will they ruin it?

    >How will they ruin it?

Why even ask this? Just pick up the playbook and flick through it:

Femshep lead becomes Captain Marvel 2.0.

Black Actor playing Garrus pushes thinly veiled BLM agenda.

Jacks character development doesn't focus on "living weapon of mass destruction" but instead her struggles of being non-binary.

Tali relegated to "Asian Tech Guru" spawning endless "Asians r peepru too" protests

God only knows how fricking inane Grunt or Rex are going to be - no doubt being played by Batista or some other shitty wwe "actor".

        >They're making ME4 right now

Yes 10 years after ME 3 and 5 years after Andromeda.

Even then It's only because the ME Remaster was commercially successful that 4 has got the go-ahead. Andromeda blue balled EA on the subject for a long time. Even then the fanfare for the Remaster was miniscule last year, a year in which the best game offerings were "It takes two" "Deathloop" and "Halo Infinite".

Don't get me wrong I get it - It's the same with all AAA publishers. But fml EA really shafted the ME franchise; it's up there with Duke Nukem levels of incompetence.

This is my biggest gripe with ME3 and how it was hyped up by Hudson. All of those choices in the previous titles only amounted to an increased number of resources and an after credits scene that lasted a few seconds. Other than the campaign felt unfinished. DLCs were an improvement but they didn't fix a game that was so obviously rushed. The only reason I return to it occasionally is for the enjoyable combat.

They should have explained that by thwarting all 3 of the Reapers' plans (use the Conduit to come to the galaxy, use the Collectors to make a new Reaper who can succeed where Sovereign failed, and use the Alpha Relay) Shepard gave them no choice but to manually "walk" to the Milky Way, which depleted some of their energy, which is why in ME3 it is possible to fight a conventional war (even if a losing one) against them, and why they aren't godlike being who just completely take over the galaxy. Or explain that all the time Shepard bought the galaxy allowed the races to prepare for the Reaper invasion. As things are, yeah, the war in M3 kind of makes 1 and 2 pointless.

No no nooo dude, they should never ever arrive. This is what ruins the Call of Cthulhu aspect. If a fleet of basically robot great old ones arrive, it should be 1000% game over for all life.
Maybe, and that's a BIG maybe, one of them could arrive. Harbinger coulda been used for that. e.g. the Reapers are almost coming through some macguffin relay, but you destroy it just in time so only Harbinger comes through and defeating just him alone takes the whole fricking galaxy teaming up and throwing everything they have at him.

And then what happens to the rest of the Reapers? How do you get closure and an ending that assures you that the characters who survived the war got to live happily ever after, when you know that these Eldritch abominations are still lurking out there?

That's the beauty of it, you don't! The immediate threat has been stopped, but no one has any guarantees for the future. How does that play out in galactic politics? What other horrors are out there? THAT'S the good stuff! See:

                [...]
Defeating Sovereign in ME1 should have been the end of the Reaper threat. Their only way to the galaxy was the Citadel relay that you successfully shut down, their only way to be called to awaken was Sovereign who is now dead. Even if the Reapers did wake up, it would take them a lifetime to re-enter the galaxy from dark space at sub-light speeds. Not that anyone within the Mass Effect universe would know these are guaranteed, but on the meta level that would be the case.

Galactic civilization now knows Reapers exist, we've become aware that there are ancient horrors beyond our comprehension. Explore how that impacts galactic affairs. Some people would be paranoid of the Reapers showing up, other people might be trying to deny the existence of Reapers and insist Sovereign was a Geth spook, still other people could start studying Sovereign's remains and using new knowledge to interact with ancient technologies in different ways, there'd be fringe groups calling it all a false flag and politicians trying to leverage the events for political gain.

The Reapers never should have been the final threat of the trilogy, they should have just been this ambiguous threat that exists just outside our vision and understanding only to shake up the status quo of the galaxy and bring the player into a fresh set of galactic politics that they had a hand in the beginning of. It should have been the tip of the iceberg, not the be-all, end-all beginning and end of the whole story.

What if there was no closure and you could milk the franchise for another 20 years with worse and worse sequels? It would have made the most sense from a marketing perspective too

Ironically Marvel did the Reaper bit in Ultimate Marvel much better. In fact, the story came out years before ME 1, so it's very possible BioWare lifted it from there, yet still managed to frick it up. In 1610 Galactus was rebooted as a swarm of nanomachines called Gah Lak Tus which roam through the universe and consume worlds. In the end it closes around Earth and the FF/X-Men/Ultimates manage teleport a Big Bang into its core. That destroys about 20% of its swarm, so it recognising that Earth and near other alien civs are laghably weak, it simply retreats and goes towards another direction. It had a bit of a Marker thing going on too with the Silver Surfers causing people to an hero.

Something like that would've been preferable, in making the Reapers truly scary. Instead they were basic b***h robots with lasers.

Everyone builds off something else, but the parallels between UGLT and ME are suspiciously close.

I was a big fan of Ultimate Marvel back in the day, I've read this story many times. Yeah they really managed to make Galactus scary. I can see using that for the Reapers, amplifying the existential horror aspects of something this powerful and capable of wiping out life to the max. Difference however, is that ultimate Galactus care only about the Earth, and he had his Silver Surfer suicide cults and technoviruses wipe out as many humans as possible to make it easy on his "digestive system". For the Reapers it's the opposite: they use their great power to devastate the galaxy's infrastructure, but try to take as many people as they can alive for their "harvest".

My problem with the Reapers is that I never was scared of them. They were just big battleships and that was it. No different than any other low rent large aliens or battleships. Meanwhile GLT managed to build up the dread and even in the end it remained an enigma and thus kept its effect. The Reapers ended up being no worse than any dime-a-dozen villain from capeshit. There was just no atmosphere. For my money, I'd say the Leviathans gave me a bigger sense of awe simply because of how the scene was constructed, regardless of the idea itself. Execution plays an important role.

Yeah, arrival was where they cut themselves off from any wiggle room.
The ending of 2 had the reapers gearing up to move, but since dark space is fricking enormous they could have given themselves ample time for them to actually arrive. 3 didn’t even have fo feature them at all, which would have cut away the plot hole of them not rushing the citadel and shutting down the relays.

After arrival, however, the series was on a time limit. The threat went from imminent to immediate, and they had to arrive soon regardless.
After that, the main plot of ME1 got pissed out a window and it only got worse from there

He is a great actor, but Dafoe is too expressive to play TIM imo. He can handle serious and dramatic roles for sure but he's at his absolute best when he's flying into bouts of high emotion over something. TIM is more reserved, even when he gets angry with Shepard the most he does is raise his voice for a moment with a strong glare. Usually when you interact with TIM he's condescendingly cool and dismissive.

They'll make Shepard male and then make a brand new OC donut steel stronk wimmin POC character to upstage him in every way at every turn. The irony will be completely lost on the producers that Shepard could have just been a woman because it's a custom character because their only knowledge of Mass Effect will have been seeing male Shepard on the poster.

Anyone who likes three is a genuine moron
Every decision you made in the other games doesn't matter. The biggest examples being
    >Release or genocide bugs
    >Oops doesn't matter bugs are back and they're evil
    >Space Gypsy's go to war with geth or nah
    >Doesn't matter they do anyways
    >Reprogram the geth or don't
    >Doesn't matter they all go evil
On-top of a bad story all the way through
The crew mates they added were human.
Why the frick did we need a different human solider boy? Was Ashley, Kaiden and Jacob not enough?
No volus, elcor or hannar crew mates
A reporter, driver and assistant all new characters all human
It's a bad game. Anyone with creative vision was removed. The game having redeemable parts doesn't make it good, it just makes it worst that they knew the right things to do and refused to do them the whole way through.

The show will be bad if they don't rewrite the entire third game

      >t. didn’t play the game

      >Release or genocide bugs
      >Oops doesn't matter bugs are back and they're evil
If you kill the Rachni queen in 1 then spare the Breeder in 3, then yes, they will turn on you
If you spare the queen in 1 she does come back and some of her children are being indoctrinated by the Reapers. If you spare her again she contributes to the crucible war effort
      >Space Gypsy's go to war with geth or nah
      >Doesn't matter they do anyways
The quarians gearing up to try and retake Rannoch is foreshadowed in Tali’s loyalty mission in 2, so no it didn’t come out of nowhere. You have the option to advise them briefly after the trial if you clear Tali of her charges, but they aren’t going to listen to you because half the admiralty board is deadset on war.
If you aren’t moronic and do things right in 2 and 3, you can broker peace between the Geth and Quarians in Priority:Rannoch
      >Reprogram the geth or don't
      >Doesn't matter they all go evil
They didn’t go evil moron, and rewriting the geth or not does have a small impact. If you rewrote the heretics in Legion’a loyalty mission in 2 then the geth fleet is stronger in 3, and the Quarians will take more damages (if you don’t side with the geth/peace), decreasing their war effort contribution. If you destroy the heretics, then the geth fleet isn’t as strong and the reverse occurs. The geth don’t “turn evil”, they’re defending against the Quarians. This is why brokering peace focuses on convincing the Quarians to stand down, not convincing the geth, because the geth are willing to cooperate.

Either you haven’t played the game or you watched someone else play it badly.

        >Rachini
So no matter what you do there's evil rachini and you have to kill them
        >Muh war effort
So nothing substantial to the plot just a check box in a menu. Very cool
        >Quarians
It's not foreshadowed. I didn't say it came out of no where. Can you read? They literally ask for your advice. And no matter what advice you give they go to war. Your decision doesn't effect any part of it.
        >Geth
The geth literally start working with the reapers again to help there war effort against the quarians.
Have you played the game? Or have you just read a synopsis.
The games are about choice and three of the biggest decisions you make have next to no effect on the story.

Since a direct adaptation won't even be on the table here is what I think a "best case" series would be following todays woke rules
    Humans
Shepard will be a bumbling white male/simp like the dude from expanse but straight
Kaiden will be an Asian dude possibly gay
Ashley will be a classic white woman stacy/racist/"evil" crewmate that dies in the first season
Joker will be hispanic and the funny one aka Michael pena type
Anderson will stay the same, maybe a bit younger since part of the story will be everyone thinking he should be the first human spectre
Udina will also be hispanic but closer to white since he will be "evil"

    Aliens
Turians, Asari, Quarians, Salarians, and Vorcha will be the only aliens shown.
Anything else will be "too difficult" to make work especially the Krogan
Tali will be Indian/middle eastern and the love interest
Garrus will be way more bad ass than Shep
Liara will be an ugly black unfortunately with a lot of "sass"

Season one will have the rogue spectre arc with Saren and Vorcha as the bad guys. Season finale will reveal the Geth and Reapers with shitty CGI before they decided to fund them in season 2

The "best" case for Cerberus is to have a black illusive man so they wont just be "le evil white nazis"
Illusive man will have a white wife and will be the father of Jacob and Miranda who are both mixed and alleged to be "perfect genetically"

      Anonymous

What I actually think will happen is Shep will be a mixed/ambiguous brown girl
Kaiden will be her gay bff
Ashley will be her rival and again a white girl elitist that hates Shep for her low class birth
Anderson and Udina will be evil white guys
Joker will be a completely different character. Basically Han Solo but black. He will bang all the women on the show except Shep
Liara will be a hispanic women. Her character and all Asari wont like human men because they are too gruff and sexual. Asari women will not be sexualized at all in this adaptation.
Garrus will not have any personality and will be a silent sniper with a dark past (He was notorious killer for hire ArchAngel and is trying to redeem his evil past)
Tali will wear her mask and her face wont be revealed until season 2

The Illusive man will be a space Nazi and secretly create the Geth with the help of Anderson and Udina who are also undercover Nazis. Cerberus will be a techno cult that hates organics that aren't white humans and worships the Reapers and creates the Geth to impress them.
Jacob and Miranda will be introduced later on as good guys from the United Earth Alliance and not connected to Cerberus at all.

    1. Hire a bunch of ugly, ineffectual actors playing roles completely off type.
    2. Plenty of producer/executive decisions from people that have never played the games aimed at appealing to an audience that have also never played the games.
    3. Nerf it to PG-13
    4. Get someone that's never played the games but did have a cursory glance at the Wikipedia page to write the screenplay, or better yet, hire some homosexual whose favorite of the franchise was Andromeda.

To whoever convinced me to read this book because "it does Mass Effect better" in the thread several months ago, frick you. Your taste in science-fiction is garbage. This book is longwinded trash with an M Night tier reliance on unnecessary plot twists. Its too long at 600 pages (when it could easily be 300-400) and its story ultimately goes nowhere. Once again, frick you for wasting my time.

Asari will be the best and most perfect race in the show, the matriarchal and feminine aspects of their society will be very prominent to show how much better women are at running things than men supposedly. The revelation about them in the 3rd game will be committed, justified or downplayed somehow
    Same with the salarians
Terra Firma and Cerberus will be explicitly paralleled with racism, white nationalism etc.
Shepard will most likely be a woman
Krogan will be paralleled with black people, the blame for the genophage will be mostly shown to rest on the evil patriarchal militaristic turians, not the enlightened matriarchal scientific salarians
Obviously they're gonna racebend or genderbend a lot of characters, most likely Anderson
Ashley will be a racist Karen, used to attack white women
The multicultural and diverse aspects of Mass Effect's will be very exaggerated, mixed-species couples will be a metaphor for interracial relationships. People who reject this multispecies world and believe species should be more separate will be shown as evil morons and again, compared to real-life right-wingers
EVERYONE will be a mutt due to it being in the future and all
And SJW stuff aside, they deliberately won't pick writers that respect the source material, like they usually do
    etc

Tbh as much as I love the Mass Effect games, they have plenty of "proto-SJW" elements already. If they were able to frick up Halo, whose world you assume doesn't leave much room for SJW exploitation, a Mass Effect show in the current era will be worse than dogshit.
