Then Peter Griffin wakes up and Futurama was just a dream after eating too many Twinkies. Then Pam Ewing wakes up and the Twinkie episode in Family Guy was just a dream.
Reveal that Fry was never in the "future", and that he was instead sent to a more advanced alternate universe's "present" where the difference in years comes from an alternate calendar system
The Professor invents a time travel device that only takes you back mere seconds in time. In this episode, Fry decides he's finally proposing to Leela at the Eiffel tower and will jump off if she decides not to show up, but due to the time machine his watch was actually not accurate and he sees Leela coming up right as he's about to die, luckily he has the time tike travel device... But he has pressed it too late and is doomed to keep repeating the fall endlessly.
Obviously Professor and Gang and figured out what's going on, so they're on their way to save Fry... But after they've successfully saved him, Fry accidentally breaks the time travel device which freezes everything in time except for him and Leela.
He and Leela spend the rest of their lives happily together... That is until the Professor has returned and knows a way to go back to before all this shit happened... In a way you can read it like the series having a perfect loop depending on how you interpret it.
The catch, however, is that I'm going to THEN renew the show another decade later when half the cast sounds like geezers.
