Don't undercut Amon by making him a bloodbender
No harmonic convergence at all, scrap that entire plotline
Remove Zaofu and everything/everyone related to it
Don't have Korra lose her bending or destroy the past avatars
Make Asami a villain and don't bring her back unless you bring the equalists back
    No pro-bending, no love triangles
And finally, if Korra is going to be gay, make her gay from the start or set it up better instead of vaguely hinting at it and then more overtly implying it in the last minute or so

Honestly? Go harder on the second tier of bending. Keep the semi tech aspect but have her need to learn the newer schools such as lightning, lava, explosion. Keep amon, have him lead to the earth queen death and cause tension in the north and south due to terrorism. You'll end up with her having to create balance between the poles and earth kingdoms.

Amon killing the earth queen would be a little weird considering the earth queen (and the earth monarchy at large) are not earth benders. If anything Amon would be happy that a non-bender is in control of benders unless you go the angle of "complete bender genocide" and he doesn't want anyone to stop him, or just "he wants power lol" which is a bit lame but it's ok

Not directly but remember he's creating a moment and these sorts of groups usually end up grabbing weird subgroups with various ideas. If she still had secret Earth bending police or normal benders under her control then the anti-benders might get both anti-monarchist and rival royals to join in. Along with any major criminal element. Same with the south and north getting anti-benders who are joined by south/north supremacists. You wouldn't even need an anarchists secret society, they would just join in since this movement would open the door for them. Like how Stalin got in after Lenin.

The existence of Element Nations suggests bending in-groups are the prevailing social order. Even though the VAST majority of the nation's population are nonbenders. Frankly I see it benefiting Amon more to kill her for just that political statement than Zaheer.

In fact I feel like Zaheer killing the Earth Queen was a narrative mistake. It may have been the only time to show him having supporter when not being manipulative. Rebels were controlling the area around Ba Sing Se. Her secret police were press ganging air benders. Life in the city was so much more shit, even compared to the lower ring in TLA. If the Red Lotus didn't do it themselves or at least merely allowed it. Say they took out some of the walls, or dai lee: they'd be encouraging people to take control of their own destinies and some people really are like-minded to Zaheer.

          >The existence of Element Nations suggests bending in-groups are the prevailing social order

It's more that the Avatar's balance is the prevailing world order. The Avatar is the one maintaining the four nations as distinct, working in tandem with natural ethnic barriers (namely the large stretches of ocean that separate the Fire, Water, and Earth nations). Once the Avatar goes missing for a century, suddenly there's a chunk of the Earth Kingdom that gets FIRE'd and Aang ends up making a fifth nation just for mutts.

Chunks of the Earth Kingdom are the Air Nomads... and also Water Tribe if bending = national identity.

Hard to say, I just watched it for the first time and enjoyed it, but you can tell the writers were struggling, threating every season like it would be the last, specially 2, so they'd end each season with a high note just to go back to the writing room and figure out what to do next

Also the first series had the benefit of having a 3 season long beginning to end while Korra was intended to be a mini series

Get rid of Avatar One and the light/dark spirit shit, literal midi-chlorian tier writing. I hope whichever homosexual thought up the “Dark” Avatar never works in the industry again. Make bending actually work like in the original series. Harmonic convergence is gone too. Also fix the spirits in general, ATLA spirits actually felt ancient and mysterious, in Korra they’re just gay. Maybe tone down the 1920s San Francisco vibe too

Depends on how fixed you want it.

    >Basic fix
Clean up the season 1 finale, delete season 2 from existence and rewrite it from scratch, replace the dumb gundam in S4 with an actual battle, lead up Korrasami better or drop it

    >Serious fix
You just gotta rewrite everything from the ground up. You can salvage some concepts, but there's just so much cancer and trash that needs to just get completely tossed.

    >Korra is a street urchin in Republic City and grew up there.
    >She is discovered as the Avatar and the White Lotus begin to train her.
    >She is a fish out of water when it comes to higher society and doesn't fit in.
    >She also disagrees with the White Lotus when they talk about balance because she has grown up in poverty and seen the problems of the world.
    >Keep the sorta-same villains but don't have "subvert your expecations" style plots.
    >Amon has a point and we see the problems, he isn't a bloodbender.
    >The spirits conflict with the modern world which leads to conflict (no Wan/Dark Avatar plots).
    >Zaheer is inspired by the new Avatar and overthrows the Earth Empress causing anarchy, Korra reaches a low moment where she has to look deep into whether her actions are good.
    >Kuvira, except get rid of spirit vine weapons and giant mech.
    >Korra actively tries to change things but sometimes her well meaning ways end up causing more trouble.
    >Her friends can fit into her new street urchin position, Asami is the high society girl who contrasts Korra; Bolin and Mako can be friends from the street who feel at odds with her new position.
    >Ultimate theme of the series is the discussion over change, Aang was the Avatar of Balance, Korra the Avatar of Change. Is all change good for the world? Was the stagnation better?

You. How do we get you your own show?

  18. 4 months ago

It needed a seasons wide plan. Korra didn't need an equivalent of a Firelord, the designated final boss, but she needed somebody to be her Zuko - an antagonist switching to deutrogonist.
Such character didn't have to undergo exact same redemption arc, they could have even have a smaller role. Take for example Lunatic from Tiger and Bunny anime, who is the first serious villain and has his own stuff going on through the series until the finale where he teams up with the heroes and dies moments after they learn his identity
Amon would be good for this. Korra unmasks him in S1 finale and for the rest of the show he reminds a wildcard. They tried the same with Zaheer, but that was too late to do much with the concept

Remove all of the 1920's shit, it just doesn't work with Avatar as a setting. The only place of worth it could have went is with the tired "Industrialism vs Nature and Spiritualism" trope, and the only way to do that interestingly would have been far too dark and not at all fit for nickelodeon. TLA also did it better in a single episode with Heibei.
    So a short checklist
    >No republic city
    >No radios
    >NO FRICKING RADIOS
    >No cars
    >No rewriting how the avatar or bending works
    >Yes this means no Wan, he is terrible and so are his episodes, even if the non-character art is nice.
    >No love triangles, make a group dynamic that actually fricking works, team korra was awful and also managed to rarely interact with each other somehow.
    >Don't shit all over Toph. Seriously why.

There's really so little that WORKS in Korra, it's almost like the only good idea they had was her design.

      Anonymous

      >No cars
I get hating everything about Korra just to be sure you hate the right shit: but they had tanks, zeppelins, steamships, jetskis, and a goddamn pickup truck in the original Avatar. Any fricking sequel would have civilian versions of at least those vehicles.

Have her actually lose all her bending save Air at the end of season one and have to start over from scratch. Avatar State unlocks it temporarily so she's gotta talk to the spirits of the past, which she's bad at, but gets better with time. Means she's got reason to work with Bumi bc frick bending be cool, work with Tenzin bc Air is all she's got, and now she's seeing things from the Equalist side, losing that benefit of bending.

Also do none of the plots of 2, 3, and 4, just make a wholly different story. It's fine to throw all that out too because I never watched any of that shit.
