How would you fix Miles Morales?

Like it or not, Miles Morales is now being treated as an important Spider-Man character, despite not really deserving it.
Since we have to deal with him, how would you improve him?

Miles isn't popular, the Spider-Verse movies are (barely given the weak BO), saying he gets to claim the appeal of Peter's multiverse is like saying Sam Witwicky is the draw of the Transformers movies, or America Chavez is the draw of Multiverse of Madness

He needs his own name. It's insulting for him to adopt the name of some old white guy.

He needs a more distinct and unique costume. He's basically wearing black face spider-man FFS.

He's clearly LGBTQ+ coded, take him out of the closet already! This isn't the time to have another straight male hero.

Kill off Peter. Miles doesn't work as well when he's just Spider-Man jr. It's the same reason Ben failed as a character because writers couldn't fully let go of Peter. With USM giving everyone the Peter Parker we've wanted for years they should just retire 616 for the time being.

Not to mention it's a name he'd arguably be even closer to than Spider-Man.

I represent the mainstream opinion btw, no amount of whining about the comics will change where the actual source of Miles' popularity comes from.

It's kinda ironic honestly since Spider-Verse is part of the reason Miles can't get better. He's too known as Spider-Man to change it now but it's only because of movies that are based on his old status quo before they fricked him with the move. There's also a funny tangent you can go on with the fact they had to completely rewrote his personality due to another adaptation, MCU's "Peter Parker", already taking his comic personality. That being funny since people get really mad about how much MCU Peter sucks.

I wouldn't make him entirely Prowler like suggests but making him a Robin hood like spider-man would be a unique take. One who doesn't have a uncle Ben but an uncle Aaron like ultimate that is a bad influence that leads him astray from the spider-man motto.
      Also

Kill off Peter. Miles doesn't work as well when he's just Spider-Man jr. It's the same reason Ben failed as a character because writers couldn't fully let go of Peter. With USM giving everyone the Peter Parker we've wanted for years they should just retire 616 for the time being.

is completely right. Miles is at his best at turmoil with being spider-man, every time Peter mentors him and tells him he's great is weak.
Power wise, with a few tweaks, the new super saiyan form is the only thing that should stay that was introduced after ultimate. The second he starts shooting electricity it's dilutes his potential for creative problem solving that makes comics what they are.
His supporting cast is severely underdeveloped after moving from ultimate. They need to get him out of costume so the stakes aren't just family is in danger all the time.
Every comic is frustrating to read because you can see the potential but no writers are able to use it. I had written and early draft of what I called a Miles reboot instead of just casting him off.

I remember someone mentioned that since they're making him ultra OP with his electric powers, they should just make Miles an electric superhuman that is a Spider-Man wannabe. As in Spider-Man but without the spider powers and replaced with electric powers. Wall crawling is him magnetizing himself (even though some say that's how Peter's wallcrawling works) and his webs are cable lines or some shit.

Still though, I hate that the PS4 games make him OP by making him go full electric powers when in the original the venom sting is just a OHKO from his fingers, like a spider bite. And blasting electricity is Jessica Drew's thing so I'm even more pissed.

Considering Jessica Drew's one of Bendis' favorites and her beams are also called venom blasts. It's almost certain Miles "venom blast" was a homage to her. People just don't pick up on it because Miles thing used to be way more downplayed and they're so far removed that nobody would be thinking of both of them at the same time.

Coincidently, Jessica made a lightsaber too in her 70s cartoon that lnobody watched. That show gave her a bunch of powers comic Jessica doesn't have.

i know this is bait but this isn't even true ironically. the writers are giving him all these cool new toys to play with because they want you to think he's the BETTER spider man, not the only spider man. their battle is already lost because they clearly already understand that the average reader knows what peter, the baseline, normal, archetypal spider man can do. the sword, the flying, even the invisibility and venom blasts are all there in the vain hope that showering miles in gifts will make him look cooler than the OG, but in all that they forgot to write an interesting character, and in actuality ceded that Peter is in fact the OG.

It's kinda ironic then that all it really does is give more ammo to "why is he even Spider-Man?" even when written by people who want to insist he is. I doubt people who don't like him would even harm the claim this much. I've been in the "make him Prowler camp" for ages and "give him a random new power every have a year" never crossed my mind.

He could've been the real Spider-Man of his own world but moving to mainline took away his motivation. Then they took away any connection to the theming with all the extra stuff. Hell, Bendis even step up a name change before he left and the Spider-Verse movie came out.

The only things tying down Miles to "Spider-Man" is a movie that's loosely about an iteration of the character who was long gone even when it came out and whatever the frick Insomniac is doing

Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 is the ultimate example of that. An entire game about them working together constantly and they just... call each other Spider-Man. And the civillians, hell villains too. It breaks more immersion then any super powers.

Realistically, how fricking arrogant would you have to be to do that as Miles? Alternatively, how fricking cucked would you have to be to allow/propose that idea as Peter?

A game I like playing whenever Miles comes up is trying to guess which of the three in pop culture somebody's talking about. You know, if they say something deeper than "He's black!"

Like the glorified sidekick and "Good job, Spider-Man! You too, Spider-Man!" is blatant Insomniac rather than Spider-Verse where they'd use his name or comics where the two pretend the other doesn't exist. All three Miles are notably different and have slight different issues.

I'm going to sound crazy for this but I actually think they should lean MORE into what he was like earlier on. The problem with a lot more recent Miles stuff is trying to transplant over his Spider-Verse personality when that doesn't jive with the comic character. That or they copy even more from Peter, Mayday, etc.

He'd stand out more if they acknowledge he's a sheltered middle class kid who goes to a boarding school and his only real knowledge of "the real world" before the spider was whatever Aaron would talk to him about. Parents had a rough upbringing and they were too successful in shielding him and making him into their ideal child. So like an anti-Peter in the sense that Peter used to be a kid that had it rough and had to be a man at a young age, Miles grew up in a bubble and has no idea how to navigate the real world. I'd probably also have a running gag about how utterly divorced from both black and Puerto Rican culture he is since Bendis never really addressed it

Then again, I don't care if Miles does get shelfed so whatever

His villain gallery could be made entirely by successors of old Spider-Man foes, reworked to be more dangerous and clever. Plus, if the successors somehow have surprise powers entirely unrelated to the moniker (very much like Miles is a Electric Spider).

Example: Peter fought the Vulture. A old-geezer thief in a razor-sharp winged suit.

Miles should have a Vulture sucessor that's a gang of vultures (all of them highly specialized thieves in flying garment). And for some reason one of them is capable of trading places with the others.

    A Rhino with time powers.
    A Electro with sound powers.

Just get rid of the extra powers and stick with Venom Touch not being electricity and invisibility.

You don't need to give him a sword to make his fights interesting. People like seeing Spider-Man fight with insane reflexes, webs, and acrobatics. If you have fun and combine that with turning invisible to dodge shit and having villains make him work to get in close to use his Venom powers people will enjoy it.

Some people will always hate on him because he's not Peter or black but if you just stop making him a mary sue you'd have a character a large majority won't mind to genuinely like. Also maybe retcon the part where Ultimate Peter died and have Miles struggle to live up to the mantle he left behind only to immediately invalidate that struggle by bringing him back to life. That also majorly fricked over the character.

If the comics could sufficiently answer the question "What does being Spider-Man mean to Miles Morales", that'd probably be a good start because it'd give his character an angle different from the rest. Cause originally, the answer would be "Living up to PETER PARKER's legacy as an example of a hero who uses his powers for the benefit of others over himself", but considering Peter Parker himself is alive and we have a whole bunch of other characters who have him as a living example of someone to generally live up to (including both Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson and Venom), there has to be more than that for Miles.

And don't "but muh mephisto deal" me, they've had Miles make a deal with the devil by now too, so he's still technically trying to emulate Peter Parker.

So scenarists pushed him at the first place by adding him extra power to show he's stronger than Peter, but it didn't work, some artists forgot which powers he actually has...

The only effective thing would be to put him in another universe where he'll be the only heroe with power.
