Honestly, the film isn't really even that bad. It's just obviously messy and stitched together from several different versions/ideas that were being developed.
Somebody already made a better prehistoric road movie about animals caring for a feral human. It's called Ice Age 1.
i get why they made Ice Age sequels. It was Fox's first successful animated film (Anastasia underperformed and Titan AE flopped) so it makes sense they'd make sequels guaranteed to be profitable. What i don't get is why they don't resemble the original (no humans, for example)
Robots at least had a brilliant setting and amazing visuals for the time, in spite of weak characters and all the fart jokes. Ice Age 2 was the real warning sign because they introduced a bunch of “hip lingo” and “cool haircut” teenage characters that would become a strange recurring tradition in all of their next films. Even then, the Scrat stuff in IA2 holds up, but they never got close to the strong story of the first movie ever again.
The premise on itself is aberrant and unappealing;
Something that the idiots who made this thing didn't understand from the oriignal Ice Age which is the thing they were obivously ripping off is that the human kid was always treated with respect as the offspring of dangerous and alien beings; Humans as critters or pets is never not going to be fundamentally unsettling.
Not have it set in a primitive world where the humans are cavemen, especially when the Croods came out a few years before hand. They made it seem like it was going to be something like a modern life version of Dinotopia, where human technology adapted to coexisting with Dinosaurs. Still pissed knowing the outcome was far from it.
I’d make it a “gentle giant” adventure movie instead of a “boy and his dog” survival film. Basically reverse the characters, have a sentient human boy befriend a fricking dinosaur. You could even set it in modern day and have it be an Iron Giant thing like some of the early concept art implied.
It doesn’t really matter though, the story they went with still could’ve worked if they had another year or so to flesh out the things that were weak. With all the behind the scenes drama I’m pretty sure they were just rushing to get it out in time and accepted a 6/10 was good enough.
>Basically reverse the characters, have a sentient human boy befriend a fricking dinosaur.
This is pretty much it; Kids want to have a dinosaur, not be owned by a dinosaur. Its basic shit the pretentious creators sacrificed for the sake of subversion.
>Kids want to have a dinosaur, not be owned by a dinosaur
I don't think Pixar was very concerned with whether or not kids could self-insert in their movies. Does any child want to go on an adventure with an elderly man? Probably not.
Danny And The Dinosaur is an obvious starting point >kid meets dinosaur >becomes friends >spend the day going to the zoo and the museum, have fun, get kicked out for starting disturbances
Just a cozy quick read
I honestly didn't even dislike this film. That's not to say I think it's good (lol), but I would straight up rather watch it over Inside Out, TS4, Brave, Coco and Lightyear.
A few things irritated me about this from start to finish on-top of it just being boring and bad. The shoehorned human barely added anything and was unneeded or should have been better fleshed out. Yet another dino cartoon starring an herbivore type dinosaur was seen before in Land Before Time and Disney's Dinosaur and is just uninspired. No proper villain conflict was also done poorly. Probably would have been more interesting focusing on the outlaw raptors as villain protagonists.
Yeah the whole movie was just a tech demo for the landscapes. Weirdly I'm not sure if they've reused that tech for other movies. Maybe idk. Stopped caring long ago.
Better stylized dinosaur designs. The ones they went for are so fricking generic it's unbelievable they came from a Pixar production.
Frick toy sales, make them all realistic or some shit
Delete humans from the movie. Make it about the MC dealing with the concept of his specie's extinction or something. That would be pretty interesting.

Ice Age 1 is kino. Nobody likes to admit it due to the sequels being inferior and Blue Sky's next film, Robots, not living up to it
Most people know and say that Ice Age was good. Some even like the sequels.
Buck saved the third movie, I'd say it treads the line of kino
3 is the only good sequel imo. I don't remember much of 2, while 4 and 5 were lame
Let's be real, dino milf saved the third movie
>Prehistoric animated film where the first one is good and mildly serious, but the other unnecessary sequels are all dumb and completely different
Hey, Ice Age, are you trying to steal Land Before Time's gimmick?

Ice age 2 wasn't bad, but not as good as 1. Ice age 3 was way better than 2 though.
I don't remember ice age 4 besides the pirates.
2 is the worst of them all tho. They had no fricking idea what to do with it, its just "Manny gets laid".
geez. Between Robots and Ice Age 2, whatever promise Blue Sky showed with Ice Age 1 was quickly flushed down the toilet

Robots is such a mixed bag of a CG joke machine
Robots is fricking great and I'm willing to die on this hill
>Nobody likes to admit it
What the frick are you talking about? It's still regarded as a classic.

I would add more rape
Should've been a full on western instead of dinosaur movie with western elements
Then it would just have existed under Rango's shadow
That's like saying making any western film stands in the shadow of the Searchers or the good the bad and the ugly
Clearly the movie should have been about how an asteroid was going to hit the Earth and the animals use some magic crystals to save the world.

Yeah they really blueballed us with the trailer
I wouldn't fix it. I would listen.

like clockwork

I had that book as a kid. It's a great read when you're about 5 years old.
kino, would still make for a good Paddington-style childrens film
Kino book choice
That and another one I don't remember and can't find that had a boy and his great bernard were my childhood books
Happy ending
Lighter mood
Make the Dino go bad
I honestly didn't even dislike this film. That's not to say I think it's good (lol), but I would straight up rather watch it over Inside Out, TS4, Brave, Coco and Lightyear.
Throw it in the trash and hire a real artist to make a real movie. No need to care about Hollywood screw-ups.
It's a combination of 2000's Dinosaur and the Ice Age series with characters from a Gumby short. There is no salvation.
Not making a dinosaur movie (Ice Age raped that dead horse anyway), unless its animated by Don Bluth.
Universal should not be allowed to have a faux monopoly over dinosaur movies.
you can't
make it about anthropomorphic dinosaurs attending highschool with a human (male)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncQoXSJJhgg
Based snoot poster
Remove the humans and add Carnotaurus.
the frick
Never seen a dinosaur mating dance?
Kek I thought this was that Dinosaur movie.
instead of a boy dinosaur and his human dog, make it about a karate dad tyranno and his little ankylo son
A few things irritated me about this from start to finish on-top of it just being boring and bad. The shoehorned human barely added anything and was unneeded or should have been better fleshed out. >The cowboy rexes as protagonists
Fixed.
Superfluous human is one thing
BUT THEY JUST MADE HIM ANOTHER FRICKING DOG
HOLY SHIT STOP MAKING EVERY GODDAMN THING A GODDAMN FRICKING DOG AAAAAAAAAA
Don't know, didn't saw it
I felt really bad for the team that worked on this. They were real proud of their real time light system and volumetric clouds.
Yeah the whole movie was just a tech demo for the landscapes. Weirdly I'm not sure if they've reused that tech for other movies. Maybe idk. Stopped caring long ago.

by not making it at all
