From what I can tell the main theme is a "Looks are only surface level, what matters is on the inside" story, which like alot of such films falls into the pit of making all attractive people evil, which comes off that looks do matter and Attractive are evil. It comes off as a desperately cope from the creators about how they weren't popular in high school and want to demonize the people who were because they still have a stick in their ass.

Multiple scenes of them hanging out and doing some girly stuff and eventually have it escalates to Chelsea inviting Ruby to a consort she has tickets for. Ruby wants to go but her mom says no. Chelsea convinces her to sneak off but after it’s over she gets caught by her mother and gets grounded.
