she has some super villain pod cast I guess. Committing crimes just to get more famous is an okay motivation for a baddie too
just keep her outfit sexy and don't do a "female villain becomes an anti-hero" storyline

The modern equivalent of a radio shock jock would either be edgy podcaster or a streamer, though I think I'd go with streamer.
Don't think I'd make her an e-thot though.

They already gave her a prank channel in the New 52 and a podcast in Dawn of DC.

Vtuber, hit by lightning, initially reconstitutes as basic electricity but reforms herself into her avatar's image

They already modernised her in DC Superhero Girls by making her an online social media troll and shitposter. Just tag her being a politically charged streamer/podcaster and you're fine.

So, basically just make her a malicious version of one of those obnoxious pranktubers and MrBeast style e-celebs. Throw in an element of her being an online troll and outrage farmer for superheroes if you want to get political with her. In this day and age, there's no shortage of real world examples you could model her behaviour off of.

It's a real fricking crime they didn't put any of that into MAwS.

I did think it was kind of cool how the more she used that tech the more she started to look like classic Livewire, but yeah, mercenary is quite the departure from her old self. And that's not even touching on her redesign.

just swap her being a shock jock to having a controversial podcast and her original story would work mostly fine. honestly the biggest change i'd make is have her still keep her job so she can act as a good foil to both superman AND clark. discussing news in the most inflammatory way possible, using her livewire form for odd power trip or to get new info to report on, simultaneously shitting on superman while holding a great amount of respect for Clark for being one of the last "honest journalists". stuff that would really make her stand out

I think the joke could be that what she says is actually probable to people in the know, but she always reaches the wrong conclusion because of her biases against heroes and especially Superman.

Her conspiracies could be very mundane. Politicians aren't mind controlled, they are corrupt. X disaster wasn't caused by aliens but the building being badly built because of mismanagment. Instead of "the truth os out there" she could say that the world isn't that complicated as they want you to yhink.

    >how would you modernize livewire?
    >should she be an e-thot supervillain?

start out like Alex Jones. Have a tv show. Come up with crazy shit. Dunk on heroes and villains and the wealthy and the government. Sometimes brings on credable guests. Clark is either too bold or naive to stay off her show and sometimes goes on to defend a side she is attacking. She develops a crush on him because of his polite assertiveness. Never treats her like she is stupid or yells at her, but never backs out and points out flaws in her obvious bullshit.

She eventually gets too close to exposing some shit Lex is doing just by happenstance and he tries to have her killed in an accident. Superman saves her but not before SCIENCE STUFF goes wrong and vaporizes her. Supes blames himself, his clark side feels horrible that one of the few people in news, despite it being the hack side, to take him serious early in his career is dead.

She materializes and blames Supes. Does her little thing of annoying him and being both flirty and prudish. Showing her body off while punishing people for looking, etc.

She's clearly lost her job because of causing property damage, so she goes online and has blogs, video blogs, streams, etc. Maybe some softcore cam stuff with an onlyfans. Never actually shows full nudity because that is how she is. Always a spicy tease.

Maybe have her try to date Clark by capturing him. Have her do it many times with him figuring out ways to get away without revealing who he is.

if it is a what if story, have her discover it was Lex who tried to have her killed, eventually discover that Clark is Supes and she end up as Supes wife and produce some god like children with him. i don't think she'd ever truly be good. Something more like Vegeta where she does good things to protect those she loves and treats crime as a waste of her time.

If its a main series, I imagine they will tease them getting together and then nothing coming of it.

I mean, isn't that what the comics are trying to do (albeit mostly poorly)? Especially after them trying so hard to make Harley an anti-hero and pairing them both up? Ivy is only a 'villain' when her sensibilities over the Green get hurt or someone does something to Harley. Otherwise, she's just neutral now (not that that should excuse her, or Harley, from doing time for the crimes they willfully committed - but everyone is fine with them roaming around...)

is the lighting bolt her neckline or is it part of her costume?
are we meant to see cleavage in there?

        Anonymous

It's neither, it's part of her body. After her accident, she became a being of pure energy and can transfigure her outer appearance however she pleases (to varying degrees, depending on the continuity and incarnation of the character.) Think Plastic Man.
But for sake of artistic discussion, the 'costume' is her neckline but the animated versions usually don't contour her breasts because of the audience. Other artwork of the character will occasionally feature her other attributes (and the newest few totally redesign the character outright). In the comics, she actually got a physical suit in 2011(to help her control her powers) but due to the nature of her powers (and the origins of the suit, coming from Superman's electric-phase in the late 90s) she still could control its physical appearance entirely. Unsure if that is still cannon with the current continuity, but I think it's a neat way to tie in different, unrelated aspects of Superman's past that feel organic in story-telling.

Livewire completely makes sense as a relatively recent character whose origins and gimmick are grounded in a medium that has largely fallen out of favour due to progresses in technology and mass media consumption.

Ax the Daily Planet, it's a horse-buggyy by modern standards. Clark and Lois work for Leslie's show and try, despite the abuse, to sneak the truth into broadcasts despite Leslie's insistence on the sensationalist angle.
Also fun dynamics of underling and boss BOTH hiding secret identities from each other.

She should be an internet investigator, the kind of people who sneak into places and take footage and it's uploaded onto anonymous youtube channels and she eventually sees too much and they attempt to assassinate her and she ends up getting her powers, her whole schtick should be "rah rah fight the power" and Superman SHOULDN'T have any ground to talk-no-jutsu her, because she would just see him as a mouthpiece of the existing power structures (she's not necessarily wrong about that) and she should instead be charmed by interviews with Clark Kent, who should be who she is attracted to. The exact opposite of Lois Lane, and why she should be his love interest instead in some new run or timeline or whatever, where Lois is just a star-fricker who breaks Clark's heart.
