They already tried. I remember everyone jerking advent child or whatever it's name was's visuals, but I don't think it was all that successful in theaters.

Final Fantasy has a different story for each game so what the frick do you want to adapt? You can't adapt Final Fantasy. You have to pick a world or make a new one.

What makes Final Fantasy is a shared commonality of elements such as certain creatures (chocobos, mogs), summons or even items but other than that there's no relation.

That was the key of what made 90s to early 2000s Final Fantasy good. I wasn't Final Fantasy for its elements, but because of a team of talented artists, creators and programmers.
You had peak Nobuo Uematsu, Tetsuya Nomura, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Kitase, Narita, everyone committed and working together in a company that was king but eventually took some bad economic decisions (
is a moron for thinking Advent Children was the first FF movie) by making a movie called Spirits Within that caused Squaresoft to go bankrupt

Anyway, asking how to adapt Final Fantasy is like saying hey guys how can I adapt a microwave to a movie? You can't. It makes no fricking sense

It's more or less the same story every game or at least used to be just a plot involving magical.crystals. there was never any need to make it more complicated than that

he never said advent children was the first FF movie, so why are you such an embarrassing moron?

yeah and they all shared a similar vision of high fantasty intermixed with high technological aspects with a focus on lighthearted antics while tackling a sincere and serious story. every fricking time you morons parrot "wuuhhh final fantasy isnt similar at all" i have to actually wonder if youve played the fricking games. nobody says dragon quest is inconsistent or wildly varying when classic final fantasy was basically the same fricking level of consistency

They all practically have the same story/plot beats, you could just pick any one with a good story and adapt it, X would be a good candidate
But the hair and dialogue and stuff is atrocious at points
    Don't think anyone should try

    >diverse group of 4
    >skinny curly brown hair white guy, black guy, Asian female, platinum blonde white woman
    >rag tag bunch of misfits (everyone strong but the white guy who is always fricking up as his “character development “)
    >go around fighting monsters in a washed out green color grading
    > encountering cringe meta references to npc villagers always repeating themselves, getting healed at churches (which are all evil and corrupt)
    >chocobo episode
    >filler ep where they do character development in a diverse commercial hub while airship is being repaired and they learn about economic inequality
    >Asian female betrays them but she had a good reason (yt man did bad thing to family)
    >they forgive her
    >introduce multiversal elements 3/4ths of the way through
    >big bad is almost dead but does the secret final boss thing but is killed by big bad from other dimension as a cliffhanger for s2

7 possibly as a series leading into Advent Children with Dirge of Cerberus worked in however it best fits
8 but split in half for each version of the map with a sweet cliffhanger in the middle
    X, and X-2 into a potential trilogy
    Lightning the movie

trust me if they did X it would exclusively be X-2,
but yuna's skirt would be longer and they'd change her story to be that she didn't need tidus,
that's why she doin huh thang.
Rikku would have more clothes and be black.
Payne would be unchanged but have a lot more speaking lines.

I think live action would be cool but they'd have to capture the Labyrinth aesthetic with sufficient steampunk styling.
Such a movie/series would be too expensive imo but the only real way to make it kino.

Retro style anime only, no cgi no computer shit, all hand drawn.

Renaissance fantasy aesthetics only minus gun powder. Also some steampunk imagery and of course an ancient lost steam punk empire.

Cute cast of teenaged aged heroes that are all based looks wise off white northern europeans with no non-whites or freakshit races except the rare Mogel.

Extremely toned down tranime action. No 40 foot jumps into the air flying at the enemy like a cruise missile only to have your sword lamely come to a complete stop off his, no continent sized magic spells that barely kill the enemy. If the action would look out of place or outlandish in a golden age Miyazaki film, it doesn't get included.

Toned down and relatively simple pre-FFX style costumes. If an IRL can't wear it without needing a system of rigging and pullies it doesn't go in.

Simple pre-FFVI story based on 4 chosen youths being summoned as guardians of the 4 crystals. The heroes are charming and cliche, no grey and gray nonsense, no emoshit, no sjwism, no desconstruting tropes. They're all played straight as likeable classic pre-homosexualry Era Of Writing heroes. Same goes with the villain they're evil because evil. Even if they have a sympathetic motive their actions and current attitude are shown to have clearly erased any sympathy we should have for their cause.

    Orchestral music only.

Funny thing about Spirits Within is it would have made a good mainline game. The basic premise and characters were there. Scenario design, too. But they really overestimated themselves as writers. Not having voice acting can do absolute wonders for hiding how shitty your dialogue is.

Probably best to do it like an adventure-fantasy movie.
Taking inspiration from things like the recent d&d movie, the Mummy from the 90s.
But with some more melodramatic moments.

Do you specifically want FF1 adapted?
Or like a 'general' ff type of movie?

Can't believe Sakaguchi did this shitty scifi story as his FF movie.

It was never really about making a movie though, it was them creating a pipeline they've used since then in making their cinematics. While the movie did flop, it has paid itself back multiple times, as it also directly increased the quality of the cinematics SE uses in their games.

I mean. Its been 22 years. It's made its money back. But in the larger picture a ton of the work done on Spirits Within was adapted to their game development side. FFX isn't what it was without the lessons learned in SW. Every subsequent Square release benefited from the movie in some way.

            No that's complete bullshit.
They learn lessons in every product they develop, they still need to sell, they literally had to merge with another company because of the spirits within fiasco.

I don't know how you could come up with such an insanely dumb take.
Did you come up with it, or is there a video out there who fooled you?
            If so, please link it.
            That shit is hilarious.

FFIV could possibly work as a movie. Good characters, fantasy setting with knights. Simple but effective story.

      Anonymous

FFIV would be ideal, though unless they wanted to make several movies for it, they'd have to cut down on some of the characters and locations. Just to show Cecil doing terrible atrocities and then finding his redemption would be a good chunk of the movie itself, let alone the rest. Cecil, Golbez and King Baron would have to be the major antagonists of the movie. Too many more and they'd all be stepping on each others toes

cast as many Black folk as possible for background characters and extras, just to make it seem natural and fitting to a fantasy setting. the main character is also an ethnic women and the main villain a white man.

If we're talking live action, 4 warriors of light going on a quest, LotR -style. A few more join the party later on.
Swords, guns and magic. Maybe add materia and crystals as a plot point.
Have the weird-ass enemies from the games, summons and chocobos.
Perhaps try to incorporate more FF7 steampunk/cyberpunk imagery than being bland medieval shit.

  28. 8 months ago

You have to pick 1. You could basically do anything you want with the characters. You wouldn't be constrained by preconceived expectations of known characters, and basically give the franchise a chance to reboot itself for a more wide audience.
