I saw this for the first time recently and I don't know what the big deal was? Pretty mid movie. I saw it in theaters for the Ghibli Fest they seem to do every year and the girl seated next to me was having a freakout every time Howl appeared. I realized quickly it's a movie for women and that's why it has been overhyped

For the record, the book is British, so it doesn't make much sense to watch it in Japanese. It'd be like watching Lord of the Rings in Japanese or something.
LoTR is fine in Japanese too. Also, DWJ was super stoked when Miyazaki became the one adapting her book. It's also not Britain-centric in any way since the whole book takes place in another world.
