The start of Akira Toriyama’s career has proven to me that comic-making is, actually, truly doable by just about anyone who takes it seriously like a job and who has a clear idea of what a comic actually is. This guy didn’t even draw before he tried to do manga, and he just looks at what manga is and doesn’t kid himself and makes some of the greatest just by doing it. It is, in a way, easy

I think it’s about taking yourself seriously. Do you want to make an actual professional comic, or are you just settling, telling yourself it’s okay in your sense of furtive comfort, that you want to be a hobbyist with his cute little personal comic he made for ‘himself’? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but is that what we all really want, and did we all actually make that decision consciously? Or are we all just some type of shy, without ever thinking about it
I have a real job with good benefits and infinite job security, a home in a perfect location, and money in the bank. Having to give a shit about what people think about my comic and my public persona just in order to make a living, sounds like hell on Earth. This way, I get to make what I want, when I want.

Works for me, that’s genuine hobbyism which is great. I’m just saying how many people here are keeping their comics in poor quality because they’ve committed to not being very successful? How many people are limiting their effort and actual drawing ability (or focus on drawing better when you’re actually drawing) because they figure they want a comic that only has a neat 8,000 followers or something? I think even hobbyists can do better work that more people like without it being cowtowing, the secret isn’t appealing to other people, the secret is just not be kidding yourself when you sit down to make the best page you can

Started posting the arc finale now. Will take a while but it's a very intense and action packed chapter.
I think that's an interesting question. I think becoming popular with art (and even more webcomics) requires a different kind of skillset and will than just drawing.
I try to give it my all, but the comic is poor quality because my current skills are poor quality.
Someday I hope to sell the whole thing in tankobon form, though realistically the only ones who would buy are /hyw/ people with money to throw around.

I wanna use the comic work as a way to showcase myself, while also developing my skills and experiment while receiving feedback on it as well. I want to move to other industries outside of comics, but if I could make a living off of it, I don't complain either.

Pretty alright so far. I have the panels for the page 2 recolor finished, just need to actually put the page together.
For new shit, I uploaded the WIP to /aco/ since the main focus is a sex scene. Only comments were bait from a certain homosexual, and someone suggesting I took too long getting to the story. Since the sex is part of the story (Lily's sleeping around for food and shelter after becoming homeless), I added some panels at the beginning of the girl going around with other dudes. Lastly, I've been working at giving my series a cover. Pic related. Need to add the comic's title somewhere, and I want to redraw it anyway. I'll probably recycle the chapter cover afterwards.

While he does need to work on anatomy more, the animation frames themselves aren't awful.
I think the main problem with blnes's animations here are that he hasn't really studied animation, so stuff like the tweening is lackluster, and he often redraws entire characters so there's constant movement everywhere instead of what we're supposed to be looking at. Without proper anticipation either, everything looks like it's happening in the same few spans without any variation in timing.
Even if I don't like his work, it's still commendable that he's trying all of this on his own. To that end, bones, you really need to look at where shortcuts would actually help you. Smear frames and all that shit. Go watch the Dover Boys and pay close attention to where animation isn't happening.

yes and no, it was mostly a challenge to myself to try and get myself to draw since I liked to edit some art for my own nefarious purposes. Id look up boru over what I said about it the first time I posted about a week or so ago but im far too frickin' lazy and need to do an actual piece of art that isnt a shitpost.

Cinemaphile is just a bad board for this kind of topic. It's too fast for people to post comic progress on any consistent basis and none of that traffic would ever go here because all the people that come to the board just want to talk about cartoons/post twitter ragebait/make coomer threads.
That's versus the actual board dedicated to art criticism with threads that last long enough to get a wide range of responses AND actually fricking links to the previous threads so new people don't feel like each thread is its own unique thing and not a continuing general, and to see previously posted art to maybe help anyone having problems.
Also the obvious fact that people here are addicted to responding to bait and that derails threads immediately. This thread hasn't been bad but that's not the norm and no other art-related general has this problem which I can only assume is because /hyw/ is too focused on the creator of the comic and not the actual comic itself so there's not really much else to talk about anyway.

I did new oi covers for the oi 10th anniversary, mostly to make them all have spines that match and to by typographically more coherent. The interiors are exactly the same as the previous versions.

Thank you <3. But I have good and bad news! Good news, it worked! I got 91 page views! Last month I averaged 15 views for the entirety of March! That's a 506% increase in just two days! So it looks like the campaign worked and I'm planning on doing more flyers in the future. Bad news is a massive storm just hit my hometown and possibly destroyed most if not all of the posters! Sad shit but we ball and will keep balling

He also only brang out the allegations after his own dirty laundary was being brought out by fred, call me a skitz but i legit think betz wouldn't of given a frick of what fred did if fred didn't try messing with him. He also overconflated the shit out of the claims he made about fred and had little evidence other than le schizo said so.

Fred kept trying to change his story and trying to reframe himself as some innocent victim to the whole thing and a good honest dindu, then posted a screenshot of him telling his groomed-schizo to go frick himself and blocked him a day after all this shit started happening.
Here's something interesting, i was in the mscrew(discord server male green owned and allowed fred and his schozo orbiters to fester in) for a bit before the whole drama. Are you going with black and white or full color? If you're sticking to B&W, I'd suggest filling in some space with solid black- her skirt or shirt, the floor or the wall, maybe her hair. It'll help it pop without having to go full-color.

My webcomic updated, and is now available on Comicfury and Tapas under the name Catgirl Girlcat.
Also of note is that this page was done before I was advised to give the comic larger black areas and I didn't want to go back and change it.
It doesn't look terrible, but would still benefit from some more contrast- makes sense that you wouldn't want to go back and fix what's already done, though. Looking forward to what comes next!

My *fan*comic- okay let's be real it's probably just gonna be a fanfiction because fight scenes are hard to draw- is coming along nicely though. All the major characters have names now, yay.
the newest character does not have a real name yet, just a codename, but this problem can be temporarily solved because it's perfectly in character for her to insist upon being referred to by her codename at all times because she's a fricking weirdo

Western comics have become a tired and wishy washy medium, while anyone across the world who takes the manga approach as seriously as real manga artists, can succeed. I genuinely think it’s a problem of malingering and people not taking themselves seriously, going through the motions to either ‘do the old superhero thing’ like it’s just a job you slip into, or meekly tell themselves their comic isn’t really supposed to be popular or good. Meanwhile all you have to do is read a good manga and actually try to compete in that arena without kidding yourself, and you’ll be on track to something great

i got my font, boxes are neat, page sizes are good and scripts for future pages are done.
I just need to clean up the old pages and redo the words with the new fonts so it's readable.
I'm on a fence about adding a little texture or artistic detail to the pages like a crumbled piece of paper feel. I think it's tryhard if I do it, but it would feel fun doing so. I do want to have fun with my comic.
After that, I'll need a couple of places where I can post them and monitor the traffic.

Just try and try again. You can change a sketch as many times as you like, I start with very soft blue non-photographic pencil strokes (since I’m working in traditional media, none of the uninked sketch scans anyways) and then draw more firmly as you can see what lines are actually right for the full figure you’ve begun to set up
