They already announced Secret Wars and I'm going to assume that Deadpool 3 will do alot of heavy lifting for the Fox characters leading into Secret Wars.
Secret Wars is going to HAVE to be an all out 22 year battle filled with cameos from the Fox Universe, Sony Universe, and MCU for it to viewed as success.
Doing Deadpool through the universe with Wolverine would probably help that situation.

There’s a thematic reason (Logan fighting the behaviors he’s exhibited that he hates/a purely violent version of himself that if he’s not careful he could become) and also Sabertooth was potentially originally going to be the owner of the casino Logan, Charles and Laura visit bit Liev was unable to make it.
Also while there was some cgi involved in a few scenes (like the one where Logan and X24 meet face-to-face after the latter goes down the stairs) I don’t think it was all cgi; Hugh may’ve actually shaved his head.

Not necessarily. Mangold had different plans for sabertooth if he were to be included. And cloning in-and-of itself isn’t hokey. It adds to the conspiracy and sci-fi elements of the film.
You're right, cloning isn't hokey, when it actually adds something to the film and the character drama. Instead all it does in Logan is create an awful action sequence because instead of just having a film about Logan it had to have Wolverine in it.
Moon is the only film I can think of that actually pulls off cloning properly.

The perfect send-off to the X-Men as a whole was DoFP, though. All Logan accomplishes is telling us that that fixed timeline lasts a couple years before they all die.
DOFP and Logan cannot be in the same timeline. In DOFP it's 2023ish and there's young, new mutants in the school. As in they were born 13 or so years earlier, like 2010ish. DOFP establishes mutants in the alternate 2023 as well that are then in the happy ending of 2023.
In Logan, there's no new mutants younger than 25, except the clones. It's 2029ish in Logan, meaning everyone born after 2004ish was human.
Can't have 13 year old mutants in 2023 if no mutants were born after 2004. They're different timelines. The Fox X-men movies really probably have 5 different timelines at this point.
