Huh?

I don't get why people are praising this movie.

>characters are at no point introduced or fleshed out. It feels like I missed first movie and this is the sequel
>things just kind of happen and the characters go with it
>bland acting and way too many fluoride stare actors
>the mother's lines while she's having a meltdown are incredibly unnatural
>movie just ends without a conclusion?
What the frick is going on? And they're supposedly already about to release a second movie?

This movie drops basically every single thematically important piece of character and world building that gives the story meaning and weight in favour of delivering bare bones plot.

You wouldn't know Jessica and Yueh were close friends, you wouldn't know Gurney has a paternal fondness for Paul, you wouldn't know Leto and Jessica were madly in love, you wouldn't know what kind of man or leader Leto was, you wouldn't know the Baron was a freakish pedophile scheming genius, you wouldn't know Thufir Hawat is even a fricking character, you wouldn't know just how deep the Bene Gesserit frickery on Arrakis is what with their spreading prophecies as a safeguard for their agents, you wouldn't know how tortured a man Yueh was in the lead up to the attack.

You wouldn't know Dune is actually a good, interesting story with ideas and messages based on this slab of beige movie that desperately wants you to think it's super duper serious and intellectual. It is genuinely GENUINELY 0/10, an absolute fricking shambles in every way imaginable. Lynch's Dune, despite fricking up the entire story and message, was leagues better in visuals, tone, casting, and soundtrack. I cannot stress this enough: this movie, and likely it's second half, adapt maybe 10% of the book. So much is missing it's fricking insane.

Go listen to the George Guidall audibook on Youtube, best way to experience it.

jesus frick. Lynch's dune looked good most of the time, but it also looked bad a lot. it raped the message and was not a good movie. you are just a contrarian. Lynch's adaptation has way more missing, so it can't possibly be your complaint.

I see you read but decided to ignore the part where I said:
        >Lynch's Dune, despite fricking up the entire story and message
Attain reading comprehension and then you may reply to me.

yeah because those are more important than including side shit that doesn't push the plot forward dipshit. you're acting like leaving that out hurts the movie. it doesn't. its not reading comprehension its you finding some shit to complain about because the moves are popular and it helps you feel like an intellectual to decry them.

Oh I didn't realize you were just moronic, I'm so sorry. Anyway Dunc is shit, Lynch's isn't much better but at least it has better casting, soundtrack, visuals, tone, and so on. You're mad because I can actually articulate its redeeming features. Also you're a homosexual. The Sci-Fi Channel miniseries is the "best" adaptation and even then it's a cheap mess.

it has Kyle MacLachlan as paul. it does not have better casting.

        >cut
Wrong. Make it a 10 part miniseries instead.

sure but that's not really an option. I agree this would be a better series but it requires a budget a studio can only facilitate via movie. Cinemaphile should understand this

there's a threshold of studio giving a bunch of money to something, to a studio taking control and interjecting focus groups and reshoots and execs taking control of casting and themes... you aren't going to argue ring of power is good are you?

frick no, just pointing out it could be done. And with much less

                Anonymous

well sure it is possible it could be done, in some sort of parallel universe where a streaming service or network doesn't mind people being bored for the whole first season of something. the closest you can get is Apple tv asimov show, which no one watches and they might cancel.

Dune was only going to happen as a movie and its fine as that. Its my favorite book but it hits the right notes.

The Vileneuve movies are long as frick but they're padded the frick out with mood shots. Trim down on the padding and you might be able to fit in some actual fricking substance.

those shots are meaningful. seeing a building with a bunch of bass going on makes something feel big. if you don't do that, shit looks cheap. do you know why big objects fall slow in movies? giant robots move slow? there's no real reason for it but it makes the audience FEEL its weight.

            Anonymous

They're meaningful when they're used poignantly. They're not used poignantly in Dunc. Instead they're just interspersed with such frequency that none of them have weight.

"duhhhh its boring, its bland, things just happen"

pretty much grantees its going to be smart. go back to your threads about actresses feet or your inciteful opinion about Iron Man returning.

Did Paul's mother want to kill him and make the unborn child the true Messiah or did I greatly misunderstand things?

Jessica was meant to have a daughter who would be wed to a Harkonnen male to mend the rift in their houses and produce a superhuman, but she had Paul instead because Duke Leto wanted a son, thus fricking up thousands of years of Bene Gesserit eugenics. Paul turned out to be a superhuman anyway but not one they could control.

And then she had a daughter anyway so the breeding program was saved

you just got it kinda backwards. Pauls mom rushed the messiah shit to make her son the chosen one. she was supposed to give a daughter that gave the son, but she fricked with shit to make a son who would become one, but he wasn't meant to be. probably because she knew everything was going to hell
