There's a lot of caulk required to pretend it makes sense. You have to psychologically affiliate with general trends in human behavior strongly, then isolate the hypothetical mutant ability to disregard them, and postulate their projected future will not strongly include those previously identified behaviors as a consequence.

This idea used to be supremacist propaganda spewed by evil mutants, but it's slowly become assimilated into heroic mutants' ideology as well. And it sucks, because the X-Men used to stand for equality, tolerance, and coexistence.
That's why Bishop is my favorite X-Man. He's one of the few mutants that's explicitly aware of that fact that mutants aren't inherently superior to humans.
They fricking are and arguing otherwise was always pseudo-science bullshit because the definition of a species is really fricking exact and mutants don't even qualify as a subspecies.
